Chinese food has long been beloved across the world by foodies because of its flavorful dishes. By catering to mainstream dining tastes and serving fast, casual, tasty fare, Panda Express was able to create an empire spanning over 2,200 locations!
Panda Express was founded nearly 40 years ago in Glendale, California by Andrew Cherng, Peggy Cherng, and Master Chef Ming Tsai Cherng. At the time, Andrew and his father Ming Tsai had already opened the sit-down Chinese restaurant Panda Inn – a sister concept that still runs to this day. However, they got the idea to develop a fast-casual version of Panda Inn. Thus, Panda Express was born in a humble food court.
The fast-food chain opened more branches in mall food courts, until their popularity exploded to the point that there was international clamor for Panda Express. From Japan, Canada, Guatemala, and Moscow, diners were now able to locate a Panda Express and treat themselves to the famous Orange Chicken, noodles, and rice.
The first Philippine branch of Panda Express opened in December 2019, under a partnership with Jollibee Foods Corporation. New branches continue to open, and there’s been no shortage of demand for Panda Express food!
