Red Hotel Review: Relax, Enjoy and Dream

In the world of hospitality where every hotel’s name seems to have red on it, there’s the Red Hotel – a new 3-star hotel at the heart of Cubao, Quezon City.

But what makes Red Hotel different? Well, read it in this blog post.

Form the time of its construction, Red Hotel has already caught my attention with its bright-colored building and logo. When I got the chance to pass through Edsa Taft in Pasay, I also spotted another Red Hotel property being constructed. This made me think that this hotel means serious business with its expansion.Red Hotel Cubao

So when I was looking for a place to stay to spend my birthday, I remember Red Hotel, the newly opened property in Cubao. Agoda gave me a quite good deal, so I booked it.

According to its website, Red Hotel’s goal is to provide an affordable option that is at par with a 5- star hotel kind of service. Well, let’s see as I shared here the good and the not so good about Red Hotel. Read on.

THE GOOD

Red Hotel has good amenities. You can really feel that the property is new with its room, the reception area and the overall quality of the interior.

I was with my girlfriend, Eloi, and we got the Deluxe Twin Room. It was spacious, clean and smells good. You could really feel it once you enter your room, and when I checked the bathroom, I was happy to see that it was spotlessly clean. One that would really catch your attention is its powerful flush buttons which are colored green and blue. It is too powerful that it creates an after-sound effect with the twitching movement of the bidet. LOL! Maybe it is because of too much water pressure from the flush. It just makes you think that the hotel is indeed new, everything seems to be working at its best condition.

The usual “Do not Disturb” sign at the doorknob is non-existent here, because what they have is like an electronically controlled signage outside, and the control buttons are inside your room.  There is also a swimming pool that is accessible for every guest from 7 AM to 10 PM. We weren’t able to experience the pool because we didn’t bring any extra swimming clothes.Red Hotel Cubao

There is a huge TV inside the room, but unfortunately, with limited channels. Hello TV Plus. LOL! That’s okay with me, because I don’t watch TV that often but in case you have foreigner guests, come on you gotta give them some CNN, BBC , Aljazeera, those kinds of stuff. You know what I mean. This is something that Red Hotel should work into. Bring legit cable channels.Red Hotel Cubao

Location is good. It is at the heart of Cubao. The reception area is on the 5th Floor. The entrance of the hotel can be either on the Edsa side and the other side which is located in the middle of Red Hotel and Sogo Hotel. Both are branded as red-colored properties. Please don’t be confused. There are also nearby fast-food chains, drug stores in case you needed some.

Wifi is also okay. We are in the Philippines, so I always keep my expectations low when it comes to internet connection so I would not be disappointed, but I can say that Red Hotel’s internet speed is acceptable.

Aside from the pool, Red Hotel also has function rooms for events and occasions. CHECK ROOM RATES HERE

THE BAD

Again, no one is perfect, even hotels. But as a blogger, I have the responsibility to share the not so good side of the property for the sole purpose of improvement and growth.

First, I have to mention the staff at the reception. They seemed okay but not as accommodating enough. They need to smile more and not make the guests feel that they are stressed or unhappy with their job. I have to be clear that they weren’t rude, they were okay. But being in the hospitality industry, it wasn’t enough.

You know, I’ve worked in customer service before and I totally understand the feeling and burden of always keeping your composure, and kindness despite everything – unhappy work environment, personal problems or heartbreak. LOL! But sadly, they’re in the hospitality industry and being nice and accommodating is something that they’ve signed up for as frontliners. Smile. Smile more.Red Hotel Cubao

I think the management has to train the reception staff more, or just talk to them if there are any personal problems or work issues that make them half-hearted in doing their jobs.

Honestly, the housekeeping staff are more genuine in their smiles compared to those at the front desk.  I know that it is a requirement to have good looking or pleasant-looking front desk employees, but as a customer I prefer a not so good looking receptionist but exuding with positivity, than a pretty face with a dull personality.

Another thing is the 1,000 deposit. I mean, this has been practice of many hotels but you have to stipulate it clearly in booking sites and in your communication materials. I also checked the hotel’s materials in the room and I read that there is an additional fee if you’re using a towel at the pool? And I confirmed that by looking it up in some reviews. There is a 100 peso charge for the pool towel, and guests are not allowed to use their room towels. What? Well, for me that is clearly a bad customer experience. Limit your additional charges as much as possible.  As a guest, I am willing to pay a little bit higher room rates instead of being surprised by this extra charges.

And lastly, if they wanted to continue to brand itself as a 3-star hotel or even higher in the future, they should have a fridge in the room. That’s a good investment.Red Hotel Cubao

Conclusion

Red Hotel is just a new hotel, and as a new player in the hospitality industry, there are still some things to iron out. Having some not so good reviews is a way for further growth.

With Red Hotels’ good quality amenities, I will still recommend this with friends. And even me, I expect to be back. When that happens, I hope that they were able to implement further improvements to strengthen their brand.
