In 2015, I traveled to Batad in Banaue, Ifugao, marking a journey of many firsts for me. It was my first time going backpacking with a group of strangers—a daunting yet exciting prospect. The adventure began when I encountered an invitation from a fellow blogger on Facebook to travel to Batad. Having long harbored plans to visit, I did not hesitate to join.
The trip turned out to be a wonderful experience, transforming a group of strangers into close friends. Our meeting point was a Jollibee branch in Quezon City, from where we walked to a bus terminal in Cubao for our trip to Banaue. Meeting the group for the first time, we quickly bonded, perhaps due to our shared passion for travel and adventure.
After a nine-hour bus ride, we arrived at the bus station in Banaue and walked a short distance to the downtown area. Notably, one of our group members was a police officer, which afforded us a warm welcome at the police station, including a delightful breakfast, before we continued our journey to Batad.
We spent three days in Batad and then traveled to Maligcong in the Mountain Province. Banaue serves as a gateway to explore more of the Cordillera region, offering routes to destinations like Sagada or the Mountain Province.
For those planning to visit Banaue in Ifugao, there are two bus companies that offer daily trips from Manila: Ohayami Trans and Coda Lines. These services provide a convenient means to reach this beautiful part of the Cordilleras.

Accommodation in Batad
Batad Pension House and Restaurant
I recommend Batad Pension House and Restaurant, where we stayed for 2 nights during our travels to Batad. They offer simple yet clean rooms, perfect for solo travelers, couples, or groups. One of the best experiences was having breakfast overlooking the beautiful Batad Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage site. CHECK ROOM RATES HERE
The caretakers and staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly, making it the perfect place to rest after hiking the rice terraces and the famous Tappiyah Falls.
Food is also readily available, with a restaurant that offers local dishes. Please note that food here can be a bit pricey due to the transportation costs of goods to Batad, which is quite secluded. Staying here allows you to rest away from the city and disconnect from the world for a while, as internet connection is weak.
