Jomalig Island is the farthest island municipality of Quezon, which is located 139 km. Southeast of Polillo islands. This is so far away that it would take you 5 to 6 hours of boat ride going there.
But in spite of that, this is still the preferred beach destination among backpackers and adventurers for its unspoiled beaches and nature. Not to mention, the warm and accommodating locals.
I’ve been to Jomalig twice, and it is my favorite island. The vibe with the captivating beauty of nature will definitely leave every tourist rejuvenated. I remember during my first trip, I was stressed with work and battling anxiety and some personal issues. I went to Jomalig and came back with a more relaxed mind and ready to face the real world.

By BUS via Real, Quezon
The most popular way of going to Jomalig island from Manila is by taking a bus ride to Real, Quezon then a 5-hour boat to the island.
Raymond Bus, located in Legarda, Manila has daily trips going to Real. This is near Arellano University, and you can get there at the bus terminal either riding the LRT, it is near the Legarda station. You can also take the jeepney going to Divisoria from Cubao, and tell the driver to drop you off at the Raymond Bus Terminal.
Good morning from the port of Real going to Jomalig
Raymond bus has daily trips going to Real and Infanta, Quezon. Based on the latest update, there are still 2 night trips, 11:30 PM and 1:00 AM. If you there are any changes with the schedule, please let us know to update this blog post. You just need to pay at the counter with signage “Infanta” and tell the counter that you’re going to Real. Fare is about PHP 200.

Travel is about 3 to 4 hours. Once you arrived in Real, Quezon, take a tricycle going to Ungos port, the town’s port area going to Jomalig and other islands. Fare is about 10 pesos per person.
When you arrived at the port, register and wait for the assigned boat for you and your group. This is public boat, so expect to be with other travelers and locals going to Jomalig. These are actually big boats that can also carry cargos to the island.
As a passenger, I suggest that you go to the top load of the boat, so you can sleep and rest for the 5-hour journey.
After like an eternity (Just kidding!), you’ll know that you’re approaching Jomalig once you see this glistening golden beach from afar. That’s the sign.
Please be advised that during peak season like summer, you might experience some delay at Ungos port while waiting for your designated boat. This is because of too many passengers. This happened last summer, especially when Jomalig got really popular when it was featured by KMJS of GMA.
During off-season via Patnanungan
But during the off-season, boat rides to Jomalig are not that fixed, so you really have to coordinate with the Ungos port, or if you have a friend in Jomalig, you can them. In case, you arrived at Ungos port and learning that there is no scheduled trip t Jomalig, you have to look for an alternative.
One is via Patnanungan, another island municipality in the Polillo Group of Islands which is about an hour away from Jomalig. Take the boat ride going to Patnanungan for PHP 350, then charter a boat going to Jomalig. I know this is a lot expensive, so you better prepare. To avoid this from happening, better travel to Jomalig during summer which is assured that there is a daily directly to Jomalig.
Other alternative routes to Jomalig
When it comes to some worst care scenario, there are other alternative routes going to Jomalig via other towns in Quezon and Camarines Sur. But please be advised that these have irregular schedules also, so coordinate properly with the port personnel. Here are other alternatives going to Jomalig.
- Via Atimonan, Quezon
- Via Panganiban, Camarines Sur
Chartered Flights
Yes, you read it right. If you have the money and all, you can charter a small plane going to Jomalig. The island has an airstrip that is not open to commercial flights. I tried to look it up and I’ve found some information about this Jomalig blog post of a friend and fellow travel blogger, Kara Santor of Travel-up.
