Carlos Yulo Asian Games 2026: Schedule, Events, Philippine Time & Results

Carlos Yulo is heading back to Japan with another piece of history within reach.

The two-time Olympic champion has won medals almost everywhere a gymnast could dream of winning them—from the Olympics and World Championships to the Asian Championships and Southeast Asian Games.

But there is still one major medal missing from his collection.

An Asian Games medal.

Yulo will get another chance when he leads the Philippine artistic gymnastics team at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

And this time, he won’t be the only Yulo Filipinos will be watching.

His younger brother Karl Eldrew Yulo will make his Asian Games debut alongside Carlos, giving Filipino fans the opportunity to see the brothers compete together on one of Asia’s biggest sporting stages.

The men’s artistic gymnastics competition begins on September 21, with the apparatus finals scheduled for September 24 and 25 at Nagoya City General Gymnasium’s Rainbow Hall.

For Carlos, the mission is clear.

Win the Philippines’ first-ever Asian Games gymnastics medal—and possibly turn it into gold.

Here’s everything you need to know about Carlos Yulo at the Asian Games 2026, including his schedule, events, Philippine times, teammates, medal chances and results.

When Will Carlos Yulo Compete at the Asian Games?

Men’s artistic gymnastics begins on:

September 21, 2026.

The official Aichi-Nagoya ticket schedule lists men’s qualification and the men’s individual all-around final on the opening day of artistic gymnastics competition.

The competition then continues through September 25.

Here is the schedule Filipino fans should know.

Carlos Yulo Asian Games 2026 Schedule – Philippine Time

Japan is one hour ahead of the Philippines.

The official Asian Games schedule is listed in Japan Standard Time, so the Philippine times below have been converted accordingly.

DateEventJapan TimePhilippine Time
September 21Men’s Qualification / Men’s All-Around FinalFrom 10:00 AMFrom 9:00 AM
September 23Men’s Team Final1:00 PM12:00 PM
September 24Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings Finals5:00 PM4:00 PM
September 25Vault, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar Finals3:00 PM2:00 PM

The September 23 team final and September 24-25 apparatus finals depend on the Philippines and Yulo qualifying from the earlier rounds.

Exact competition order within each apparatus-final session can also affect Carlos’ individual start time.

September 21: Qualification and All-Around

The first day could already be enormous for Carlos Yulo.

The official session schedule has the men’s competition divided into sessions beginning at 10:00 AM Japan time, or 9:00 AM in the Philippines.

Qualification matters because it determines who advances to:

  • Team finals
  • Individual apparatus finals
  • Other applicable medal stages

But the day is even more important because the official Asian Games ticket schedule lists the men’s individual all-around final alongside men’s qualification.

That means Carlos could potentially compete for his first Asian Games medal on his very first competition day.

September 23: Men’s Team Final

The men’s team final is scheduled for:

September 23

at:

1:00 PM Japan time

or:

12:00 noon Philippine time.

Carlos will be part of a five-man Philippine men’s artistic gymnastics team featuring:

  • Carlos Yulo
  • Karl Eldrew Yulo
  • Juancho Miguel Besana
  • Justine Ace de Leon
  • Zachary Cortins Nuñez

Whether the Philippines reaches the team final will depend on its performance during qualification.

September 24: Floor Exercise Final

This is one of the dates Filipino fans should circle.

The September 24 apparatus-finals session starts at:

5:00 PM Japan time

or:

4:00 PM Philippine time.

The session includes the men’s finals for:

  • Floor exercise
  • Pommel horse
  • Still rings

alongside women’s apparatus finals.

Carlos’ biggest attraction here will obviously be:

Men’s floor exercise.

Why?

Because he is the reigning Olympic champion in the event.

September 25: Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar Finals

The final day of artistic gymnastics is another potentially huge Carlos Yulo day.

Competition begins at:

3:00 PM Japan time

or:

2:00 PM Philippine time.

The men’s apparatus finals scheduled that day are:

  • Vault
  • Parallel bars
  • Horizontal bar

Carlos is the reigning Olympic champion in vault, while parallel bars has historically been another strong event for him.

So if he qualifies for multiple finals, September 25 could become one of the biggest Team Philippines days of the entire Asian Games.

What Events Will Carlos Yulo Compete In?

Carlos is an all-around gymnast.

Men’s artistic gymnastics includes six apparatus:

  1. Floor exercise
  2. Pommel horse
  3. Still rings
  4. Vault
  5. Parallel bars
  6. Horizontal bar

The official Asian Games gymnastics page lists all six as the men’s artistic gymnastics apparatus.

Carlos and Eldrew are eligible to compete across the full men’s artistic program, and reporting after the 2026 Asian Championships indicated that both brothers can compete in all apparatus at the Asian Games.

But that doesn’t mean Carlos automatically reaches six apparatus finals.

He first has to produce qualifying scores good enough to advance.

Carlos Yulo’s Strongest Asian Games Events

If you’ve watched Carlos for years, two events immediately stand out.

Floor Exercise

Floor is probably Carlos’ signature event.

He won the Olympic gold medal in floor exercise at Paris 2024.

And as recently as June 2026, he proved that he remains the man to beat in Asia.

Carlos won the men’s floor title at the Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Zunyi, China, scoring 14.700 in the final.

His younger brother Eldrew made that result even more special by taking bronze with 14.300.

That means the Philippines could potentially have two legitimate medal contenders in the same Asian Games floor competition.

Imagine that:

Carlos and Eldrew Yulo standing on an Asian Games podium together.

It isn’t guaranteed.

But we’ve already seen it happen at the continental championship level.

Vault

Vault is the other event where Carlos’ name carries enormous weight.

He won the Olympic vault gold medal at Paris 2024, making him one of the world’s best gymnasts on the apparatus.

Interestingly, his most recent Asian Championships performance showed that even an Olympic champion isn’t guaranteed a final.

Carlos placed outside the vault final in Zunyi after recording 13.250 during qualification, with his coach saying his timing and run weren’t quite right.

That actually makes vault one of the more interesting events to follow in Nagoya.

We know how high Carlos’ ceiling is.

The question is whether he can deliver his best vaults when qualification begins.

If he does, he becomes an obvious medal threat.

Parallel Bars

Parallel bars is another event where Carlos has a long history of international success.

He qualified fourth for the parallel bars final at the 2026 Asian Championships after scoring:

13.966.

Carlos has also won multiple Asian Championship gold medals in parallel bars during his career.

It may not get the same attention as floor or vault because those are his Olympic gold events, but don’t overlook it.

A strong Carlos Yulo could realistically find himself fighting for the parallel bars podium as well.

Horizontal Bar

Carlos also reached the horizontal bar final at the 2026 Asian Championships.

His qualification score was:

13.466.

Interestingly, Eldrew finished ahead of him in qualification with:

13.633.

That makes horizontal bar another event where both brothers could potentially be involved.

It also shows just how rapidly Eldrew is developing.

Pommel Horse and Still Rings

Carlos can also compete on pommel horse and still rings.

These haven’t traditionally been associated with him as strongly as floor, vault or parallel bars.

But they still matter enormously if Carlos goes after the individual all-around medal.

The all-around rewards consistency across all six apparatus.

A mistake on just one piece of equipment can significantly affect the total score.

That’s one of the reasons all-around competition can be so unforgiving.

Can Carlos Yulo Win the Individual All-Around?

Yes, he has a legitimate chance to contend.

But the competition will be extremely difficult.

At the Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in June, Carlos finished fourth in the individual all-around with:

81.864 points.

The medalists included elite gymnasts from China and Japan.

That result tells us two things.

First, Carlos is already within range of the podium.

Second, winning the Asian Games all-around won’t be easy.

China and Japan have some of the deepest men’s gymnastics programs in the world.

If Carlos wants an all-around medal, he needs six clean and consistent routines.

There isn’t much room for a major fall or costly mistake.

Why the Asian Games Is Different From the Olympics

At first glance, you might think:

Carlos won two Olympic gold medals. Shouldn’t the Asian Games be easier?

Not necessarily.

Asia is extraordinarily strong in men’s gymnastics.

Japan and China are global gymnastics powers, regularly producing Olympic and world champions.

Other countries and territories including Chinese Taipei, South Korea and several Central Asian nations can also produce elite apparatus specialists.

So even though Carlos is already an Olympic champion, the Asian Games podium is far from automatic.

In some gymnastics events, the Asian field can look very similar to a World Championship final.

Carlos Yulo’s Asian Games History

This will be Carlos’ second Asian Games appearance.

His first came at:

Jakarta 2018.

He came extremely close to a medal.

Carlos finished:

Fourth in men’s vault

and

Seventh in floor exercise.

He actually topped the floor exercise qualification during that Games before finishing seventh in the final.

He was only 18 years old.

The Carlos Yulo returning to the Asian Games in 2026 is an entirely different athlete.

Why Didn’t Carlos Yulo Compete at the Last Asian Games?

Carlos skipped the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The postponed 2022 Asian Games were eventually held in 2023, but Yulo chose to focus on the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which played an important role in Olympic qualification for Paris 2024.

That decision eventually worked out rather well.

He qualified for Paris.

And in Paris, he became a double Olympic champion.

Now he’s finally returning to the Asian Games.

One Major Achievement Is Still Missing

Carlos’ career résumé is remarkable.

He has won:

  • Two Olympic gold medals
  • Multiple World Championship titles
  • Numerous Asian Championship gold medals
  • Multiple Southeast Asian Games gold medals

Philstar reported in August that Carlos had accumulated three World Championship gold medals, 12 Asian Championship golds and nine SEA Games golds.

And yet:

No Asian Games medal.

That’s what makes Aichi-Nagoya so interesting.

There aren’t many major holes remaining in Carlos’ medal collection.

This is one of them.

Carlos Yulo and Eldrew Yulo Together at the Asian Games

This may become one of the best Filipino stories of the Games.

Karl Eldrew Yulo is only 18, but he is no longer simply being introduced as Carlos’ younger brother.

He’s becoming an elite gymnast himself.

At the June Asian Championships, Eldrew stood beside Carlos on the floor-exercise podium:

Carlos — Gold

Eldrew — Bronze.

Eldrew also outscored Carlos in horizontal bar qualification.

And the younger Yulo has already won international competitions of his own.

This will be Eldrew’s first Asian Games.

Carlos Has Been Helping Eldrew Prepare

The brothers haven’t simply been competing against each other.

They’ve also been training and sharing knowledge.

Eldrew has talked about learning from Carlos’ experience as they prepare for the Asian Games and other international competitions.

That creates an interesting dynamic.

They’re teammates.

They’re brothers.

And on some apparatus, they could also become each other’s competitors for a medal.

Yulo Brothers Training in Japan

Carlos and Eldrew planned to arrive in Japan ahead of the Asian Games for a training camp.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion said the brothers would train at Tokushukai before proceeding directly to the Asian Games.

Other members of the men’s artistic gymnastics team were also scheduled for pre-Games training in Japan.

That preparation could help the team acclimatize before competition begins.

Philippine Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Team

The Philippines will send a strong five-man men’s artistic team:

Carlos Yulo

Two-time Olympic champion and multiple world and Asian champion.

Karl Eldrew Yulo

Carlos’ younger brother and one of Philippine gymnastics’ fastest-rising stars.

Juancho Miguel Besana

An experienced member of the national team with SEA Games success.

Justine Ace de Leon

Another experienced Filipino artistic gymnast.

Zachary Cortins Nuñez

A Filipino-American gymnast with U.S. NCAA experience.

That gives the Philippines an interesting combination of Olympic-level star power and depth.

Philippine Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Team

The Philippines also has a five-member women’s team led by Paris Olympian Levi Ruivivar.

The women’s artistic squad consists of:

  • Levi Ruivivar
  • Kylee Kvamme
  • Chiara Dawn Andrew
  • Lauren Supnet
  • Haylee Garcia

Women’s qualification and the women’s all-around final are scheduled for September 22.

So gymnastics could become a major Team Philippines storyline for several consecutive days.

Where Will Carlos Yulo Compete?

The artistic gymnastics competition will be held at:

Nagoya City General Gymnasium
Rainbow Hall
Nagoya, Japan.

The venue can hold up to approximately 10,000 spectators and underwent renovation completed in January 2026.

The same venue will host artistic, rhythmic and trampoline gymnastics during the Asian Games.

How Artistic Gymnastics Scoring Works

If you don’t regularly watch gymnastics, the scores can look confusing.

There is no simple “out of 10” system anymore.

The official Asian Games explainer describes two main parts of the score:

D Score

Difficulty.

This reflects how difficult the skills and combinations in the routine are.

E Score

Execution.

This evaluates how well the gymnast performs those skills.

Mistakes such as:

  • Falls
  • Steps on landing
  • Bent knees
  • Poor form
  • Loss of control

can reduce the execution score.

The difficulty and execution components are combined to produce the gymnast’s total.

So a harder routine isn’t automatically better.

The athlete still has to execute it cleanly.

Why Qualification Is So Important

Before talking about Carlos winning five medals, there’s an important reality:

He first has to qualify.

The men’s qualification round determines who progresses to the relevant apparatus finals.

That means even an Olympic champion can be eliminated if something goes wrong.

A fall.

A bad landing.

A missed grip.

A vault with poor timing.

We’ve already seen that happen to Carlos in major competition.

That’s why September 21 may actually be the most important day of his entire Asian Games campaign.

Before the medals come the qualifications.

Can Carlos Yulo Win Multiple Asian Games Medals?

Absolutely.

That’s one of the unique advantages of gymnastics.

One athlete can compete for medals across multiple events.

Carlos could potentially contend in:

  • Individual all-around
  • Floor exercise
  • Vault
  • Parallel bars
  • Horizontal bar
  • Other apparatus
  • Men’s team competition

But potential isn’t the same thing as guaranteed finals.

He needs to qualify for each event.

If Carlos performs close to his best, though, a multi-medal Asian Games is a realistic possibility.

Could Carlos and Eldrew Both Win Medals?

Yes.

And we’ve already seen proof that it’s possible.

At the 2026 Asian Championships:

Carlos won floor gold.

Eldrew won floor bronze.

Asian Games competition will bring another strong field, but that June result shows the brothers are capable of qualifying for the same final and standing on the same podium.

It would be a remarkable moment for Philippine sports if they repeated that in Japan.

Who Are Carlos Yulo’s Biggest Rivals?

The final start lists will determine the exact field, so it’s best not to declare one specific gymnast his main opponent before entries and qualification are finalized.

But in general, expect very strong opposition from:

China

One of the world’s dominant gymnastics nations.

At the 2026 Asian Championships, Chinese gymnasts Zhang Boheng and Yang Haonan took gold and silver in the men’s individual all-around ahead of Carlos.

Japan

Japan is another global gymnastics powerhouse—and this time, its athletes will be competing at home.

Japanese gymnast Miwa Teppei took the all-around bronze ahead of fourth-place Carlos at the Asian Championships.

Japanese Shoma Tsukiyama also finished between Carlos and Eldrew in the Asian Championships floor final, taking silver.

So Carlos’ path to Asian Games medals could feature many of the same elite gymnasts he has been battling at the continental and world level.

How to Watch Carlos Yulo at the Asian Games in the Philippines

Philippine Asian Games coverage is expected across the country’s official broadcast platforms, although the exact television and streaming schedule for individual gymnastics sessions may vary.

Because the Asian Games has dozens of sports happening simultaneously, not every event will necessarily appear on the same television channel.

For Carlos Yulo, the dates to monitor most closely are:

September 21

September 23

September 24

September 25.

Exact coverage schedules should be checked closer to each competition day.

Is Japan Time the Same as Philippine Time?

No.

Japan is:

one hour ahead of the Philippines.

So:

10:00 AM Japan = 9:00 AM Philippines

1:00 PM Japan = 12:00 PM Philippines

5:00 PM Japan = 4:00 PM Philippines

3:00 PM Japan = 2:00 PM Philippines.

That’s why the Philippine schedule in this article is one hour earlier than the official times published by the Asian Games organizers.

What Would an Asian Games Gold Mean for Carlos Yulo?

Maybe not much changes about how the world views Carlos.

He’s already an Olympic champion.

You don’t need an Asian Games medal to prove you’re one of the best gymnasts on the planet after you’ve stood on top of an Olympic podium twice.

But personally?

It would complete another part of his career.

Carlos has collected Olympic titles.

World titles.

Asian Championship titles.

SEA Games titles.

The Asian Games remains unfinished business.

And because the Philippines has never won a gymnastics medal at the Asian Games, Carlos isn’t only chasing something missing from his own collection.

He’s chasing something the country has never achieved.

Carlos Yulo

Final Thoughts

Carlos Yulo has entered plenty of competitions where the expectations were enormous.

But Aichi-Nagoya feels a little different.

At Paris 2024, he was trying to win the Philippines an Olympic gymnastics medal.

He ended up winning two golds.

At the World Championships, he proved he could compete against the best gymnasts on the planet.

At the Asian Championships, he became a serial champion.

Now comes the Asian Games.

The funny thing is that the Asian Games should technically be a smaller stage than the Olympics.

For Carlos, though, it represents unfinished business.

He competed in Jakarta in 2018 and came agonizingly close to a medal, finishing fourth in vault.

He missed Hangzhou while pursuing Olympic qualification.

Eight years after his first Asian Games appearance, he’s coming back as a completely different athlete.

Not a promising teenager.

Not simply a world champion.

But a two-time Olympic champion.

And he’s bringing his younger brother with him.

Carlos and Eldrew already stood together on an Asian Championships podium in June, with Carlos winning gold and Eldrew taking bronze in floor exercise.

Maybe they’ll do it again in Nagoya.

Maybe Carlos wins one medal.

Maybe several.

Maybe one of gymnastics’ strongest countries stops him.

That’s why we watch.

The journey begins September 21.

For Filipino fans, the key dates are September 21, 23, 24 and 25—with the biggest apparatus-medal opportunities likely coming in floor exercise, vault and parallel bars.

And if Carlos Yulo finally steps onto an Asian Games podium, it won’t simply fill the one obvious gap left in his medal collection.

It will give Philippine gymnastics something it has never had before:

an Asian Games medal.
