Cory Island is pretty strange. You know why? because this island is made up of dead corals. Yes, dead corals.
At first, I don’t understand why this has become like an attraction in Tondol at all. The place is creepy, with all those dark water surrounding the island and the sound of dead corals when you step on it. I was so satisfied and happy with my experience in Panacalan Island as part of our island-hopping tour in Tondol, Anda, Pangasinan, then the next island we explored is actually made of dead corals? I didn’t expect that coming. LOL!
Dead Corals.
At first, I don’t understand why they’re so many dead corals there that they’ve formed into an island.
I asked our bangkero, but he didn’t give me a definite answer. All he knew was the island got pretty popular during the time of former President Cory Aquino, that’s it was called Cory Island. LOL!
He also said that the corals were washed up and formed into an islet in the middle of the sea after a strong storm hit Pangasinan. Still, I was not convinced. LOL! I need to know the story of this island.
I don’t know, was there a time when all the dead corals in town were dumped into this specific place? If yes, of all places, why in the middle of the sea. That might not be possible. I’m sorry, I’m just speaking my mind right now, just writing freely.
If it’s true that a huge storm was the cause of why the islet made of dead corals was formed years ago, why there were tons of dead corals? Why? was dynamite fishing prevalent back then that it killed tons of corals.
My point is, Cory Island, creates more questions than answers. It tickles the mind more than relaxing it.

But after a while, I realized that Cory Islet is different, something new, that’s why people are promoting it as part of the island-hopping package. Being different gives people a new experience and perspective. Well, I did try to appreciate Cory Island. I even took photos of Eloi, my girlfriend, there. I did my best.
But then again, you can’t just let it like that. You experienced something new and then you just let it be? There must be some answers to your questions, in case you got curious. There must be some sort of reconciliation of things running through your head as you create new memories and experiences.
All in all, my take away from Cory Island is that it is unique, something different. But then again, honestly, it doesn’t give me any positive feeling. The island is not even pleasing to the eyes. LOL!
I went back to our resort with a feeling of disappointment. I need answers. I need the story of Cory island. Why are there so many dead corals?

Where is Cory Island
Cory Island is located in Tondol in Anda Pangasinan. It ‘s a few kilometers off the coast of Tondol, which is about a 10-minute boat ride from the beach. Cory Island is part of the island-hopping package offered by resorts at Tondol beach together with Panacalan Island.
Anda is an island municipality in Pangasinan which is less than an hour from Alaminos. The town is connected by a bridge to the mainland. Here’s the map of Cory Island in Anda.
Where to stay in Tondol, Anda, Pangasinan
Tondol is one of the famous beaches in Anda. So it means that most accommodation in the area are resorts and beach houses. We stayed at 828 Gems Beach Resort and it was a good experience. The staff is helpful and we had a good rest and sleep there.

How to get to Anda, Pangasinan
There are direct buses from Cubao to Anda at Five Star Bus, but these are ordinary buses with a pretty unstable schedule. Usually, these are scheduled on night trips.
For a more comfortable trip, you can take aircon buses from Victory Liner, Five Star Bus or Solid North bound to Alaminos. From Alaminos, take a bus going to Anda. Then from there, there are tricycles to take you to Tondol Beach.
