Peñafrancia Festival

Let’s start with the biggest one—Peñafrancia Festival. This is Asia’s largest Marian celebration, and it’s no exaggeration. Naga City practically transforms into a sea of faith and festivity during this time, as millions of devotees flock to honor Our Lady of Peñafrancia, lovingly called Ina by the locals.
The experience is both spiritual and moving. The Translacion kicks things off—it’s a massive procession where Ina’s image is transferred from the Basilica Minore to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. Then, there’s the emotional Fluvial Procession, where Ina is paraded back along the Naga River, surrounded by thousands holding candles, praying, and singing hymns.
You’ll also witness Pagsungko ni Ina, where the image visits neighborhoods, bringing blessings and healing. And with the Harubay, novena masses, and countless gatherings, it’s a time when the city feels completely united in faith.

Kaogma Festival

While Peñafrancia feeds the soul, the Kaogma Festival gets the party started. “Kaogma” means happiness or enjoyment in Bicolano, and this festival lives up to that name in every way. It commemorates the foundation anniversary of Camarines Sur, dating back to May 27, 1589, but over the years, it’s evolved into a full-blown province-wide party.
Expect concerts, talent shows, and sports events like boxing matches and even wakeboarding! One of the biggest crowd-pullers is the Miss Kaogma Pageant, where the most stunning and talented women in the province compete for the crown. Then there’s the grand parade, complete with floats, dance troupes, and colorful costumes that give the streets of Pili an irresistible energy.
Kaogma also features an arts fest, carnival rides, and a strong sense of local pride. And honestly, there’s something amazing about seeing people of all ages just soaking in the joy and fun of the moment.
Tinagba Festival

📍 Iriga City
If you’re ever in Iriga in February, you’ll be greeted by the vibrant and deeply rooted Tinagba Festival. This festival is a modern take on an ancient Bicolano ritual—a tradition where early communities would offer their first harvest to the gods in thanksgiving and prayer for abundance. Today, the tradition lives on, timed with the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes.
One of my favorite sights is the parade of decorated bull and carabao carts, all loaded with fresh crops. These carts make their way to Calvary Hills, where the offerings are blessed during mass and later distributed to families in need. It’s both festive and meaningful—a celebration that honors the earth’s bounty while caring for the community. There’s also mardi gras-style street dancing and an impressive float parade that adds a fun and colorful twist to this age-old tradition.
Cimarrones Festival
📅 October (Town fiesta on October 23–24)
📍 Pili, Camarines Sur
Over in Pili, the Cimarrones Festival tells the story of resistance and cultural pride. The word “Cimarrones” refers to the early Filipino settlers who stood their ground against colonization. This celebration pays tribute to those roots while also honoring San Rafael Archangel, the town’s patron saint.
Expect a powerful street dancing competition, with performers bringing to life the story of the Cimarrones through dance, costume, and song. The festival also includes sports competitions, civic parades, and cultural showcases that bring the whole community together. It’s a beautiful fusion of history, devotion, and local pride.
