Great news for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts! La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City is set to reopen to the public on June 29, following a temporary closure in February. The park will welcome visitors from Tuesdays to Sundays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a perfect getaway within the city.
Managed by the Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the reopening marks the completion of the initial phase of the park’s redevelopment. Visitors can now enjoy enhanced public areas such as the eco academy pavilion, museum, and activity centers. But that’s just the beginning – the master plan, to be revealed on opening day, promises further improvements, including new hiking trails.
In celebration of the reopening, La Mesa Ecopark has launched new social media pages and a fresh logo featuring the Rough-crested Malkoha bird. Spanning over 33 hectares, the park is a haven for wildlife, home to more than 30 small animal species, 130 plant species, and 53 bird species.
La Mesa Ecopark plays a crucial role in supporting Metro Manila’s water supply, in collaboration with Ipo and Angat Dams. The park offers a variety of features for both learning and leisure, including environmental education spaces, picnic spots, team-building areas, a viewing deck pavilion, and a food park.
Recent upgrades to the park include improved walkways and road networks, expanded parking, and a nursery area for plant enthusiasts. Enhanced sanitation facilities and refrigerated drinking fountains have also been added for visitors’ comfort.
As part of the “BiodiverCity” initiative, La Mesa Ecopark aims to educate visitors about urban biodiversity and conservation. This effort aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on climate action and sustainable living.
The redevelopment has received support from institutional partners like Bloomberry Cultural Foundation Inc. and PAGCOR. Future amenities will include a boardwalk, flower hill, amphitheater, revamped lagoon, butterfly garden, children’s playground, and more, with completion expected by 2025.
To make visits even more convenient, an online ticketing system will be introduced. Quezon City citizens will enjoy free entry, and various activities will be offered for a minimal fee. Remember, the park is closed on Mondays for maintenance.
