Metrobank Travel Signature Visa: Complete Guide for Filipino Travelers

Choosing a travel credit card should not feel like solving a complicated math problem.

Unfortunately, that is often what happens. One card gives you several rewards points for every purchase, but you need to convert those points again before knowing how many airline miles you actually earned. Another card offers a great rate for travel bookings but a much slower rate for groceries, fuel, and other everyday expenses.

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa takes a simpler approach.

With this card, you earn the equivalent of one airline mile for every ₱30 spent on eligible purchases. The same rate applies whether you are buying airline tickets, booking a hotel, dining at a restaurant, shopping online, paying for groceries, or purchasing something abroad.

The card also comes with a permanent 1.68% foreign-currency service fee, unlimited access to participating airport lounges in the Philippines, travel insurance of up to ₱25 million, non-expiring Metrobank Rewards Points, and access to three major airline loyalty programs.

Those features make it one of the most balanced premium travel credit cards available in the Philippines.

However, the card also has a ₱5,500 annual fee, a relatively high credit-card reference requirement, and no standard allocation of complimentary international lounge visits outside the Philippines.

Let us take a closer look at how the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa works and whether it is the right travel card for you.

How to Earn Miles With the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa

The card earns one Metrobank Rewards Point for every ₱20 spent on eligible purchases.

For the Travel Signature Visa, 1.5 Rewards Points can be converted into one airline mile. That gives the card its advertised earning rate of one mile per ₱30 spend.

The basic calculation is:

₱20 spend = 1 Rewards Point

₱30 spend = 1.5 Rewards Points

1.5 Rewards Points = 1 airline mile

Unlike cards with separate rates for dining, travel, online purchases, and essential spending, the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa uses the same mileage rate across eligible purchase categories.

That means you do not have to ask questions such as:

  • Does this hotel qualify for a bonus?
  • Is this online merchant considered local or international?
  • Will my airline ticket earn a different rate?
  • Does grocery spending earn fewer miles?
  • Is this restaurant correctly classified as dining?

As long as the transaction is eligible for rewards, you earn toward the same effective one-mile-per-₱30 rate.

Sample Mileage Calculations

Here is approximately how many airline miles you can earn at different spending levels:

Eligible spendingApproximate airline miles
₱30,0001,000 miles
₱60,0002,000 miles
₱120,0004,000 miles
₱240,0008,000 miles
₱300,00010,000 miles
₱600,00020,000 miles
₱1,000,00033,333 miles

Suppose you use the card for the following expenses during one year:

  • ₱120,000 for groceries
  • ₱60,000 for dining
  • ₱90,000 for airline tickets
  • ₱90,000 for hotel bookings
  • ₱60,000 for online shopping
  • ₱60,000 for other qualified purchases

Your total eligible spending would be ₱480,000.

At one mile per ₱30, you would earn approximately:

₱480,000 ÷ ₱30 = 16,000 airline miles

The advantage is consistency. You do not need to separate the purchases into different mileage categories before calculating your earnings.

How Rewards Are Calculated

Metrobank calculates Rewards Points on a per-transaction basis rather than combining all purchases at the end of the billing cycle.

The standard earning rate is one point for every ₱20 charged, and the result is rounded down to the nearest whole Rewards Point. Rewards earned by supplementary cardholders are credited to the principal cardholder’s account.

For example:

  • A ₱1,000 purchase earns 50 points.
  • A ₱1,019 purchase also earns 50 points.
  • A ₱1,020 purchase earns 51 points.

Because each transaction is calculated separately, small amounts that fall below the next ₱20 earning threshold will not be carried over to another purchase.

This creates a small amount of rounding loss, although it is unlikely to make a significant difference unless you make a large number of very small transactions.

Metrobank states that rewards from the one-mile-per-₱30 program may be credited within two statement cycles from the transaction’s posting date.

Which Transactions Earn Rewards?

Metrobank’s rewards terms state that purchases of goods and services are generally eligible. Monthly amortizations for qualifying retail and installment purchases can also earn points, along with eligible Bills2Pay Auto-Charge transactions.

Bills2Pay earning is subject to a maximum eligible amount of ₱20,000 per utility per transaction.

Examples of purchases that may earn Rewards Points include:

  • Airline tickets
  • Hotel reservations
  • Travel-agency bookings
  • Restaurant purchases
  • Groceries
  • Department-store shopping
  • Fuel
  • Online shopping
  • Foreign-currency purchases
  • Retail installment amortizations
  • Eligible recurring bills under Bills2Pay

A transaction must be posted and remain valid. When a purchase is canceled, refunded, disputed, or reversed, the corresponding Rewards Points may also be removed.

Which Transactions Do Not Earn Rewards?

The phrase “one mile for every ₱30 on all purchases” does not mean that every possible charge appearing on your account earns miles.

Metrobank excludes several types of transactions from its Rewards Program, including:

  • Cash advances
  • Cash2Go
  • Balance transfers
  • Conversion-to-installment transactions initiated after purchase
  • PayBills transactions
  • PayNow transactions
  • Casino, betting, and gambling transactions
  • Cryptocurrency purchases
  • Remittance transactions
  • Cash transfers
  • E-wallet top-ups
  • Annual membership fees
  • Interest and finance charges
  • Late-payment fees
  • Other penalties and account charges

Metrobank may classify additional transactions as ineligible under its program rules.

You should therefore use the card for normal retail purchases rather than cash-like transactions when your goal is to earn airline miles.

Do Metrobank Rewards Points Expire?

Metrobank says its Rewards Points do not expire.

However, points may be forfeited when the account becomes delinquent, suspended, canceled, converted to a non-rewards card, or otherwise falls outside the program’s eligibility conditions.

Non-expiring bank points are useful because you can keep your rewards with Metrobank until you are ready to transfer them.

That gives the card an advantage over co-branded airline cards that automatically send miles to a frequent-flyer account, where a separate expiration period may begin.

For example, you can keep your points with Metrobank while you:

  • Decide which airline to use
  • Wait for award-seat availability
  • Compare redemption requirements
  • Save enough points for a larger trip
  • Avoid starting an airline program’s expiration period too early

Once points have been transferred to an airline, the miles become subject to that airline loyalty program’s own expiration, account, and redemption policies.

Metrobank’s Airline Transfer Partners

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa currently allows cardholders to convert Rewards Points to three frequent-flyer programs:

  • Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Each program uses the same Travel Signature Visa conversion rate of 1.5 Metrobank Rewards Points to one airline mile.

Having three partners gives you more flexibility than a credit card tied exclusively to one airline.

Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles

Mabuhay Miles is the frequent-flyer program of Philippine Airlines.

It can be useful for travelers who regularly use PAL for domestic and international flights. Miles may be redeemed for eligible award tickets, cabin upgrades, and other rewards offered by the program.

This is likely to be the most practical partner for many Filipinos who frequently fly directly from Manila, Cebu, Clark, and other Philippine gateways.

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

KrisFlyer is the loyalty program of Singapore Airlines.

KrisFlyer miles can be useful for Singapore Airlines and eligible Scoot redemptions. They may also provide access to award flights with Star Alliance and other participating airline partners, subject to availability and program rules.

This option is attractive for travelers who regularly connect through Singapore Changi Airport.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Asia Miles is associated with Cathay Pacific.

It can be valuable for travelers flying through Hong Kong and for those who understand how to use Cathay Pacific’s partner network.

The best transfer partner will depend on your destination, award availability, required miles, taxes, fees, and travel dates.

Minimum Mileage Redemption

The minimum redemption requirement is one detail potential cardholders should not overlook.

Metrobank requires Travel Signature Visa cardholders to redeem airline miles in increments of 12,000 Rewards Points.

Because 1.5 points equal one mile, 12,000 Metrobank Rewards Points convert into:

12,000 ÷ 1.5 = 8,000 airline miles

This means your first mileage transfer must generally be at least 8,000 miles. Further transfers must also follow the 12,000-point increment. Metrobank currently publishes no maximum annual mileage redemption for the Travel Signature Visa.

To earn the minimum 12,000 points from regular spending, you would need approximately:

12,000 points × ₱20 = ₱240,000 eligible spend

That ₱240,000 in spending is equivalent to 8,000 airline miles.

The minimum is higher than what some cards require, so this product is more practical for people who spend enough to reach the threshold within a reasonable period.

How to Convert Metrobank Points to Airline Miles

Before requesting a transfer, you need an active membership account with the airline program you selected.

You may redeem through:

  • The Metrobank App
  • MIA, Metrobank’s Interactive Assistant
  • Metrobank Customer Service

You will need to provide:

  • Your frequent-flyer membership number
  • Your name exactly as registered with the airline program
  • The appropriate rewards redemption request

Metrobank says Mabuhay Miles may be credited within one banking day, while KrisFlyer and Asia Miles may take up to seven banking days from the request. Once Metrobank accepts the redemption, it cannot be revoked or canceled.

Name mismatches can cause delays. Make sure the name on your Metrobank account matches the format used in your airline loyalty account.

Should You Transfer Points Immediately?

Usually, no.

It is often better to keep your points with Metrobank until you have a specific trip and redemption in mind.

Before transferring, check:

  • Whether award seats are available
  • How many miles the airline requires
  • The taxes and fees you must pay
  • Whether another airline partner offers better value
  • The airline miles’ expiration policy
  • Whether a transfer promotion is available
  • Whether a paid ticket would be cheaper or more practical

Once Metrobank processes the conversion, you cannot move the airline miles back into your Metrobank Rewards account.

Permanent 1.68% Foreign-Currency Fee

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa charges a total foreign-currency service fee of 1.68% on qualifying transactions.

Metrobank made this rate a permanent card feature beginning November 20, 2025.

The fee consists of:

  • 1% cross-border service fee
  • 0.68% Metrobank foreign-exchange processing fee

To qualify for the reduced rate, the purchase must be processed and billed in a foreign currency rather than Philippine pesos.

This is one of the card’s most important advantages.

Many Philippine credit cards charge foreign-currency fees of around 2.5% to more than 3.5%. The difference may not look significant on one small purchase, but it becomes more noticeable over an entire international trip.

Sample Foreign-Currency Fee Comparison

Consider a total foreign-currency spend equivalent to ₱100,000:

Foreign-currency feeApproximate fee
1.68%₱1,680
1.85%₱1,850
2.50%₱2,500
3.00%₱3,000
3.50%₱3,500

Compared with a card charging 3.5%, the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa could save approximately:

₱3,500 − ₱1,680 = ₱1,820

At ₱300,000 in foreign spending, the approximate difference increases to ₱5,460.

That can help offset a meaningful portion of the card’s ₱5,500 annual fee.

Actual peso conversion will still depend on Visa’s applicable exchange rate and the transaction-processing date.

Always Pay in the Destination’s Local Currency

When using your card abroad, a merchant may offer to process the payment in Philippine pesos.

This is known as dynamic currency conversion.

For example, a terminal in Thailand may ask whether you want to pay in:

  • Thai baht
  • Philippine pesos

To qualify for Metrobank’s reduced foreign-currency rate, choose the foreign currency—in this example, Thai baht.

Metrobank states that foreign transactions processed or billed in Philippine pesos at the point of sale are not eligible for the 1.68% fee.

The same principle applies elsewhere:

  • Select Japanese yen in Japan.
  • Select South Korean won in South Korea.
  • Select Singapore dollars in Singapore.
  • Select US dollars in the United States.
  • Select euros in participating European countries.

Review the payment terminal carefully before entering your PIN or confirming the transaction.

Unlimited Local Airport Lounge Access

Metrobank Travel Signature Visa principal and supplementary cardholders receive unlimited complimentary access to participating PAGSS and Plaza Premium lounges in the Philippines, provided their accounts are active and in good standing.

Participating locations currently include:

PAGSS lounges

  • NAIA Terminal 1
  • Davao International Airport, domestic and international departures
  • Puerto Princesa International Airport, domestic and international departures

Plaza Premium lounges

  • Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 1, domestic departures
  • Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2, international departures
  • Clark International Airport Terminal 2
  • Clark Allways Lounge for eligible domestic departures

PAGSS visits may be limited to six hours from the time the flight’s check-in counter opens. Plaza Premium visits generally have a maximum duration of three hours.

Participating locations, service hours, capacity, and lounge arrangements may change.

What Do You Need to Enter the Lounge?

To use the complimentary lounge benefit, present:

  • Your active Metrobank Travel Signature Visa
  • A valid boarding pass bearing your name
  • Your passport or another acceptable photo-bearing government ID

The lounge may process a temporary ₱1 card authorization and reverse it to confirm that your card is active.

Both principal and supplementary cardholders can use their own qualifying cards for access.

This makes the free supplementary-card benefit particularly valuable. A spouse or family member with a qualifying supplementary Travel Signature Visa may enter independently, subject to Metrobank’s lounge conditions.

Are Guests Free?

Complimentary access generally applies to the eligible cardholder.

At participating PAGSS lounges, children below seven years old may enter without being counted as paid guests. Other companions are subject to the lounge’s prevailing charges and seat availability.

At participating Plaza Premium lounges, the first infant below two years old may enter free. Guests aged two or older are generally subject to the lounge operator’s applicable fee.

Guest rules may change, so confirm them with the lounge before traveling with a family or group.

Does the Card Offer Free International Lounge Visits?

The permanent card benefit highlighted by Metrobank is unlimited access to participating lounges located in the Philippines.

Metrobank previously ran a spend-based LoungeKey promotion that awarded international lounge passes for qualifying airline transactions, but that promotion ended on July 24, 2026. It should not be treated as an ongoing card feature unless Metrobank announces a new offer.

This distinction is important.

“Unlimited local lounge access” does not mean unlimited lounge access around the world.

Travelers who prioritize several automatic complimentary lounge visits overseas may prefer a card with a permanent DragonPass, Mastercard Travel Pass, Priority Pass, or LoungeKey allowance.

Complimentary Travel Insurance of Up to ₱25 Million

Beginning April 15, 2026, active Metrobank Travel Signature Visa cardholders aged 85 or younger can receive complimentary travel insurance when they charge their airfare to the card.

The program is provided through AXA Philippines and applies to eligible domestic and international air travel.

Key benefits include:

  • Travel accident protection of up to ₱25 million
  • Emergency medical coverage of up to ₱200,000
  • Loss or damage to baggage coverage of up to ₱40,000
  • Trip cancellation and postponement coverage
  • Trip-delay benefits
  • Baggage-delay benefits
  • Lost travel-document benefits

The policy is structured as annual multi-trip coverage. Each eligible trip can last up to 50 consecutive days, with unlimited qualifying trips during the coverage period.

Understanding the ₱25 Million Coverage

The ₱25 million amount is the maximum accidental-death and permanent-disablement benefit for the principal cardholder during an eligible international trip.

It does not mean every claim receives up to ₱25 million.

Metrobank’s published benefit schedule currently includes:

International accidental death and permanent disablement

  • Principal cardholder: up to ₱25 million
  • Spouse: up to ₱5 million
  • Dependent child: up to ₱500,000

Domestic accidental death and permanent disablement

  • Principal cardholder: up to ₱10 million
  • Spouse: up to ₱2 million
  • Dependent child: up to ₱200,000

Emergency medical expenses

For eligible international travel:

  • Principal cardholder: up to ₱200,000
  • Spouse: up to ₱200,000
  • Dependent child: up to ₱100,000
  • Subject to a ₱5,000 deductible

Travel inconvenience benefits

The published schedule includes:

  • Trip cancellation: up to ₱20,000
  • Trip postponement: up to ₱20,000
  • Trip delay: ₱2,000 per six hours, up to ₱20,000
  • Baggage delay: ₱2,000 per six hours, up to ₱20,000
  • Loss or damage to baggage: up to ₱40,000
  • Loss of travel documents: up to ₱10,000

Each benefit is subject to the full policy terms, documentation requirements, deductibles, and exclusions.

Is the Complimentary Insurance Enough?

The insurance is a useful benefit, but it may not be enough for every trip.

Emergency medical coverage of ₱200,000 is helpful, but treatment in destinations such as the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, or parts of Europe can cost much more.

You may still want a separate travel insurance policy when:

  • Visiting a country with expensive healthcare
  • Taking a long trip
  • Participating in adventure activities
  • Traveling with expensive equipment
  • Needing higher trip-cancellation protection
  • Having pre-existing medical concerns
  • Wanting emergency evacuation or repatriation coverage
  • Traveling for more than 50 consecutive days

Complimentary card insurance should be treated as a valuable layer of protection, not automatically as a replacement for every standalone policy.

How to Activate the Travel Insurance

To become eligible, charge your airfare to the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa.

Metrobank states that the benefit is available to active principal and supplementary cardholders in good standing who meet the age requirement. A Certificate of Coverage may be requested from AXA through its customer-care channels.

Coverage can extend to the cardholder’s spouse and as many as two dependent children aged 17 or younger, provided they are traveling with the cardholder and meet the policy requirements.

Before departure:

  1. Charge the eligible airfare to the card.
  2. Keep the payment confirmation and card statement.
  3. Save the complete flight itinerary.
  4. Request a Certificate of Coverage when needed.
  5. Read the AXA policy terms and exclusions.
  6. Keep receipts and documentation for any potential claim.

Claims must be submitted directly to AXA with the required supporting documents.

24/7 Visa Concierge

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa includes access to Visa Concierge.

The service can help with selected travel and lifestyle requests, such as:

  • Restaurant recommendations and reservations
  • Travel research
  • Hotel information
  • Event and entertainment inquiries
  • Gift suggestions
  • Lifestyle arrangements
  • General destination assistance

Metrobank identifies 24/7 Visa Concierge as one of the card’s premium features.

Concierge assistance does not mean that the products, tickets, reservations, transportation, or third-party services are free. Any purchase arranged through the concierge remains your responsibility.

Think of it as an assistance service rather than a complimentary travel package.

Metrobank Travel Signature Visa Annual Fee

The principal card’s annual membership fee is ₱5,500, waived during the first year.

The standard supplementary-card annual fee is ₱2,750, but Metrobank currently provides free annual fees for the first two supplementary cards.

The free supplementary cards can add value for couples and families.

Supplementary spending earns Rewards Points under the principal cardholder’s account, while eligible supplementary cardholders can use the card’s participating local lounge and travel-insurance privileges under the applicable conditions.

Can You Use Points to Waive the Annual Fee?

Yes.

Metrobank allows cardholders to use Rewards Points for a full or partial annual-fee waiver after the fee has been charged.

Current requirements for the principal card are:

  • 58,000 points for a 100% waiver
  • 29,000 points for a 50% discount

For a supplementary card:

  • 29,000 points for a full waiver
  • 14,500 points for a 50% discount

The redemption may be requested through the Metrobank App, MIA, or Customer Service and generally takes three to five banking days to process.

Because the card earns one point per ₱20, accumulating 58,000 points requires approximately ₱1.16 million in eligible spending.

Before using points for the annual fee, compare that redemption with their potential value as airline miles.

For example, 58,000 points could theoretically convert into approximately 38,666 airline miles, although actual transfers must follow Metrobank’s 12,000-point redemption increments.

Using that many points to erase a ₱5,500 fee may not be the best option when you can obtain greater value from airline redemptions.

Other Metrobank Rewards Options

Rewards Points are not limited to airline miles.

Metrobank allows eligible points to be redeemed for:

  • Cash rebates
  • Electronic vouchers
  • Annual-fee waivers
  • Charitable donations
  • Other items in its rewards catalog

For the Travel Signature Visa, 20,000 Rewards Points can currently be converted into a ₱2,000 cash rebate, subject to Metrobank’s annual redemption rules.

Because 20,000 points require approximately ₱400,000 in eligible spending, the cash-rebate return is about 0.5%.

Frequent travelers may potentially receive better value by transferring points to an airline and redeeming them strategically for flights.

However, cash rebates are simpler and do not require searching for award seats.

Other Important Fees and Charges

Metrobank currently publishes the following charges for the Travel Signature Visa:

  • Monthly retail interest rate: 3%
  • Annualized retail interest rate: 36%
  • Cash-advance interest rate: 3% monthly, calculated from the date of withdrawal
  • Cash-advance fee: ₱200 per transaction
  • Late-payment charge: ₱1,000 or the unpaid minimum amount due, whichever is lower
  • Over-limit fee: ₱750 per occurrence
  • Card-replacement fee: ₱400
  • Returned-check fee: ₱1,500
  • Gaming-services transaction fee: 5%
  • Refund fee: 1% of the refund amount or ₱100, whichever is higher
  • Installment pre-termination fee: 5% of the remaining principal or ₱550, whichever is higher

Other fees apply to facilities such as Cash2Go, Balance Transfer, Balance Conversion, Quick Cash, PayNow, and quasi-cash transactions.

The most important cost is the 3% monthly interest rate.

Even an excellent one-mile-per-₱30 earning rate cannot compensate for repeatedly paying finance charges.

Why Paying in Full Matters

Suppose you spend ₱60,000 and earn approximately 2,000 airline miles.

If you carry that ₱60,000 balance for one month at a 3% monthly interest rate, the approximate finance charge could be around ₱1,800, depending on Metrobank’s balance and interest calculations.

Those 2,000 miles are unlikely to be worth ₱1,800.

The best way to use a travel rewards card is to:

  • Charge only expenses you can afford
  • Pay the full statement balance by the due date
  • Avoid cash advances
  • Avoid unnecessary installment conversions
  • Never spend merely to earn points
  • Treat miles as a bonus rather than a reason to borrow

Metrobank Travel Signature Visa Application Requirements

Metrobank publishes the following eligibility criteria for the card:

  • Applicant must be 18 to 70 years old.
  • Minimum annual income is ₱700,000.
  • Employed applicants must generally have at least six months of regular employment.
  • The applicant must be a principal cardholder with another bank for at least nine months.
  • The existing card must have a credit limit of at least ₱150,000.
  • Applicant must have an active mobile number.
  • Applicant must have an active business or residence landline.
  • Applicant must provide a valid PhilID, TIN, SSS, GSIS, or UMID number.
  • Applicant must provide an acceptable photo-bearing government ID.

A ₱700,000 annual income is equivalent to approximately:

₱700,000 ÷ 12 = ₱58,333 gross monthly income

Meeting the published criteria does not guarantee approval. Metrobank will still evaluate your credit history, income stability, existing debts, payment behavior, and overall creditworthiness.

Income Documents

Depending on your applicant profile, Metrobank may request documents such as:

For employed applicants

  • Latest BIR Form 2316 or income tax return
  • Recent payslips
  • Certificate of employment containing position, date of employment, and income
  • Valid government-issued identification

For self-employed applicants

  • Latest audited financial statements
  • Latest income tax return with the appropriate BIR or bank stamp
  • Business and financial documents requested by Metrobank
  • Valid government-issued identification

Existing Metrobank depositors and applicants with qualifying credit cards may be evaluated under different documentary requirements. Foreign applicants may also need to provide immigration or residency documents.

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted through Metrobank’s online credit card application system.

The general process is:

  1. Open Metrobank’s official credit card application page.
  2. Select the Travel Signature Visa.
  3. Complete the personal-information section.
  4. Enter your employment, income, and existing-card details.
  5. Upload the required identification and supporting documents.
  6. Complete Metrobank’s verification process.
  7. Wait for the application decision.
  8. Activate the card after receiving it.

Metrobank says online applications typically require the completed form and uploaded supporting documents, with processing commonly taking around two to three weeks. Actual timing may vary depending on verification and document completeness.

Advantages of the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa

1. Simple one-mile-per-₱30 rate

There are no separate mileage rates for travel, dining, groceries, or foreign spending.

2. Strong local earning rate

One mile per ₱30 on eligible everyday spending is competitive for people who make most of their purchases in the Philippines.

3. Three useful airline partners

You can choose among Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.

4. Non-expiring Metrobank points

You can keep points with Metrobank while deciding when and where to transfer them.

5. Low foreign-currency fee

The permanent 1.68% rate makes the card competitive for overseas and international online purchases.

6. Unlimited participating local lounge access

Both eligible principal and supplementary cardholders can use participating PAGSS and Plaza Premium lounges in the Philippines.

7. High travel-accident coverage

The card provides up to ₱25 million in accidental-death and permanent-disablement coverage for qualifying international air travel.

8. Free first two supplementary cards

Families can combine spending in the principal cardholder’s rewards account while eligible supplementary cardholders receive their own card privileges.

9. First-year annual-fee waiver

You can evaluate the card during the first year before paying the regular ₱5,500 principal fee.

10. Rewards flexibility

Points may be used for airline miles, cash rebates, vouchers, donations, or annual-fee waivers.

Possible Disadvantages

1. High existing-card requirement

Applicants generally need another bank’s principal card with at least a ₱150,000 limit and nine months of account history.

2. ₱5,500 annual fee

The annual fee is significant for someone who travels infrequently or spends very little on the card.

3. High mileage-transfer minimum

You need 12,000 Rewards Points, equivalent to 8,000 miles, for each transfer increment.

4. No standard free worldwide lounge allowance

The permanent lounge benefit focuses on participating airports in the Philippines.

5. Limited airline-partner selection

Mabuhay Miles, KrisFlyer, and Asia Miles are useful, but some competing rewards programs offer additional airline or hotel partners.

6. Medical coverage is relatively modest

The ₱200,000 international emergency-medical limit may be insufficient in expensive healthcare destinations.

7. Per-transaction rounding

Small unused portions of each transaction do not carry over when calculating Rewards Points.

8. No accelerated bonus categories

One mile per ₱30 is consistent, but another card may earn faster on specific categories such as overseas purchases, hotel bookings, or airline transactions.

Is the Card Good for Local Spending?

Yes. Local spending is one of the card’s strongest areas.

Many travel cards offer their best earning rates only for foreign purchases or a narrow group of travel merchants. They may earn miles slowly when used for groceries, fuel, utilities, and general retail purchases.

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa earns the same one-mile-per-₱30 rate across eligible local purchases.

That makes it suitable for people who want to earn travel rewards from ordinary expenses rather than relying entirely on overseas trips.

Is It Good for Overseas Spending?

Yes.

The 1.68% foreign-currency fee is among the more competitive permanent rates offered by Philippine travel cards.

You also earn at the same one-mile-per-₱30 rate.

Some cards can earn miles faster abroad—such as one mile per ₱12 or ₱25—but the Metrobank card remains competitive because it combines:

  • A low foreign-currency fee
  • Simple rewards earning
  • Airline flexibility
  • Complimentary travel insurance
  • Wide Visa acceptance

The right choice depends on whether you value a faster overseas rate or a more consistent rate for all spending.

Who Should Consider This Card?

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa may be a good match for:

  • Travelers who want a simple mileage program
  • People who spend heavily in the Philippines
  • Philippine Airlines customers
  • Singapore Airlines customers
  • Cathay Pacific customers
  • Cardholders who want non-expiring bank points
  • Travelers who regularly use airports in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Davao, or Puerto Princesa
  • Families who can benefit from free supplementary cards
  • People who make frequent foreign-currency purchases
  • Applicants who already have a high-limit card with another bank
  • Travelers who want insurance included with eligible airfare purchases

Who May Be Better Off With Another Card?

Another card may suit you better when:

  • You do not have an existing ₱150,000-limit credit card.
  • You travel only once every few years.
  • You primarily use an airline outside Metrobank’s three transfer partners.
  • You want complimentary international lounge visits.
  • You want a faster earning rate for hotel or overseas spending.
  • You prefer hotel loyalty points.
  • You cannot reach the 12,000-point transfer minimum.
  • You cannot justify the ₱5,500 annual fee.
  • You need higher international medical-insurance coverage.

Tips for Maximizing the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa

Use it for regular eligible expenses

The consistent earning rate means groceries, dining, shopping, travel bookings, and other eligible purchases can all move you toward your next mileage transfer.

Charge eligible airfare to the card

Doing so can activate the complimentary travel-insurance benefit when the policy requirements are satisfied.

Keep your points with Metrobank until needed

Do not transfer miles before checking award availability, required miles, and the airline program’s expiration rules.

Pay in foreign currency abroad

Choose the destination’s currency instead of Philippine pesos to qualify for the card’s reduced 1.68% foreign-currency fee.

Use supplementary cards strategically

The first two supplementary cards have no annual fees, and their eligible purchases earn points for the principal account.

Use participating local lounges

Remember to bring your card, boarding pass, and valid ID.

Track your points

Review the points shown on your statement and raise discrepancies within Metrobank’s applicable dispute period.

Compare redemption options

Airline miles may offer better potential value, while cash rebates and annual-fee waivers are easier to use.

Avoid excluded transactions

Cash advances, e-wallet top-ups, remittances, and other cash-like transactions may not earn rewards and can carry additional fees.

Pay the full statement balance

This is the most important rule. Interest charges can cost much more than the value of the miles you earn.

Is the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa Worth It?

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa is worth considering when you want a travel credit card that is easy to understand.

Its biggest strength is consistency.

You do not have to reserve the card only for overseas travel, hotel bookings, or dining. Eligible everyday spending earns the same effective one-mile-per-₱30 rate.

The card becomes especially attractive when you can use several of its main benefits:

  • You spend enough to earn meaningful mileage.
  • You transfer points to Mabuhay Miles, KrisFlyer, or Asia Miles.
  • You make foreign-currency purchases and benefit from the 1.68% fee.
  • You use participating airport lounges in the Philippines.
  • You charge airfare to the card and use its travel insurance.
  • You give supplementary cards to qualified family members.
  • You pay the full statement balance every month.

The ₱5,500 annual fee is reasonable for a frequent traveler who uses the lounges, insurance, miles, and low foreign-currency fee. It may be difficult to justify for someone who rarely travels or cannot reach the minimum mileage-transfer requirement.

Final Thoughts

The Metrobank Travel Signature Visa does not have the fastest earning rate for every type of traveler.

Some cards earn more miles on overseas purchases. Others include several free international lounge visits or offer a broader list of airline and hotel transfer partners.

What the Metrobank Travel Signature Visa offers is balance.

You get a competitive mileage rate across eligible purchases, a low permanent foreign-currency fee, flexible airline transfers, non-expiring bank points, unlimited participating local lounge access, and substantial travel-accident insurance.

For Filipino travelers who want one primary credit card for both everyday spending and international trips, that straightforward combination can be very appealing.

Before applying, estimate how much eligible spending you expect to put on the card each year. Consider whether you can use the airline partners, local lounges, insurance, and supplementary-card benefits. Then compare that expected value with the ₱5,500 annual fee.

Most importantly, always pay the entire statement balance by the due date. A travel credit card can help make future trips more affordable, but only when rewards are not being canceled out by interest and unnecessary fees.

Card information is based on official Metrobank materials checked on August 6, 2026. Rewards rates, fees, airline partners, lounge locations, insurance coverage, promotions, and application requirements may change. Credit card approval remains subject to Metrobank’s credit evaluation.
