For many Filipino travelers, Singapore is more than just a holiday destination. It is also one of the most convenient gateways to the rest of Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America.
That is one reason Singapore Airlines has become a popular choice among travelers from the Philippines. Aside from its direct flights, Singapore Airlines connects passengers to a wide international network through Singapore Changi Airport.
Filipinos who regularly fly with Singapore Airlines may therefore find the EastWest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer World Mastercard especially interesting.
This premium travel credit card offers one of the fastest mileage-earning rates available in the Philippines. You can earn one KrisFlyer mile for every ₱12 spent on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, hotels, travel agencies, overseas purchases, and other eligible travel transactions.
The card also includes ten complimentary airport lounge visits annually, a low 1.70% foreign-currency fee, travel insurance of up to ₱20 million, welcome miles, anniversary miles, and a free first supplementary card.
Those benefits sound impressive, but the card also has a few important limitations. It has a high income requirement, charges a ₱5,000 annual fee, and automatically transfers your rewards to KrisFlyer, where the miles generally expire after three years.
Let us take a closer look at how the card works and whether it deserves a place in your wallet.

What Is the EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard?
The EastWest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer World Mastercard is a premium co-branded travel credit card issued by EastWest Bank in partnership with Singapore Airlines and Mastercard.
Unlike a general rewards card that lets you choose among several airline programs, this card is built specifically around KrisFlyer, the loyalty program of Singapore Airlines.
Every eligible purchase earns KrisFlyer miles. These miles are then transferred automatically to the cardholder’s personal KrisFlyer account.
You can use KrisFlyer miles for eligible Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights, cabin upgrades, and other rewards offered through the program. KrisFlyer miles may also be used for eligible award tickets with Star Alliance and other partner airlines, subject to the program’s redemption rules and availability.
This makes the card especially valuable for people who already use—or plan to use—the KrisFlyer program.

How the KrisFlyer Miles-Earning System Works
The most attractive feature of the card is its accelerated earning rate.
Unlike many Philippine credit cards that provide only one mileage rate, the EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard divides spending into three main groups.
One KrisFlyer mile for every ₱12 spent
You earn the fastest rate on eligible purchases involving:
- Singapore Airlines
- Scoot
- KrisShop
- Kris+
- Hotels and resorts
- Travel agencies
- International or cross-border transactions
- International online purchases
EastWest’s terms also place qualifying international spending and hotel and travel-agency transactions in the ₱12-per-mile category. However, flights purchased from airlines outside the Singapore Airlines Group follow the separate “other airline” rate, even when booked internationally.
The ₱12 rate is excellent for a Philippine-issued card.
For example, spending ₱60,000 on eligible travel or overseas transactions would earn approximately:
₱60,000 ÷ ₱12 = 5,000 KrisFlyer miles
Meanwhile, ₱120,000 in eligible spending would earn:
₱120,000 ÷ ₱12 = 10,000 KrisFlyer miles
That is much faster than a card earning one mile for every ₱30, ₱40, or ₱50.
One KrisFlyer mile for every ₱38 spent
The second earning category includes:
- Flights booked with airlines outside the Singapore Airlines Group
- Local e-commerce transactions
- Local dining purchases
This is still a respectable rate.
A ₱38,000 eligible airline, dining, or local online-shopping purchase would earn around 1,000 KrisFlyer miles.
However, it is important to understand how airline purchases are classified. A ticket from another airline will generally earn at the ₱38 rate, even when it is purchased abroad or through an international website. EastWest specifically separates “other airline” transactions from the broader cross-border category.
One KrisFlyer mile for every ₱78 spent
Other eligible local transactions generally earn one KrisFlyer mile per ₱78.
This category can include everyday purchases such as:
- Groceries
- Fuel
- Department-store purchases
- Utilities enrolled through Quick Bills
- Other local retail transactions that do not fall under a bonus category
This is the card’s weakest earning rate.
For example:
₱78,000 local essential spending = approximately 1,000 KrisFlyer miles
That is considerably slower than cards offering one airline mile for every ₱30 or ₱48 spent locally.
The EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard is therefore most rewarding when you use it for travel, international spending, restaurants, and online purchases—not necessarily for all your local household expenses.
How EastWest Calculates Your Miles
KrisFlyer miles are calculated separately for every eligible transaction rather than by adding all purchases together at the end of the month.
The miles for each transaction are rounded down to the nearest whole mile. The World Mastercard’s terms state that an eligible transaction must generally be at least ₱36 to earn miles.
Suppose you make an eligible ₱1,000 purchase in the ₱12 category:
₱1,000 ÷ ₱12 = 83.33
You would earn 83 miles because the decimal portion is removed.
This transaction-by-transaction system means several small purchases may produce slightly fewer miles than one larger purchase of the same total amount.
Supplementary-card transactions are included in the principal cardholder’s account and can also earn KrisFlyer miles.
Which Transactions Do Not Earn KrisFlyer Miles?
Not every charge qualifies.
EastWest’s published exclusions include:
- Local cash advances
- Quasi-cash transactions
- Gaming and gambling transactions
- Online trading and related purchases
- Insta-Cash transactions
- Balance transfers
- Convert-to-Installment transactions
- Refunded or reversed transactions
- Disputed, unauthorized, or fraudulent charges
- Annual membership fees
- Interest, penalties, and other credit card fees
EastWest can also exclude other transaction types based on merchant classification or program rules.
A merchant’s category is determined through the payment network. The name of the merchant alone does not always determine which earning rate will apply.
For example, a hotel booking made through an unusual payment intermediary may not necessarily be categorized in the same way as a direct hotel transaction.
Welcome Bonus: 6,000 KrisFlyer Miles
New cardholders can receive 6,000 welcome KrisFlyer miles after accumulating at least ₱200,000 in eligible retail spending within three months from the card’s activation date.
That works out to an average of about:
₱66,667 per month for three months
The welcome miles are awarded in addition to the regular miles earned from those purchases.
However, you should not spend more than you normally would simply to reach the requirement. A welcome bonus is worthwhile only when you can meet the threshold through planned expenses and pay the entire statement balance.
Existing EastWest KrisFlyer Platinum cardholders who voluntarily upgrade to the World Mastercard are not eligible for the World card’s welcome bonus.
Anniversary Bonus: 15,000 KrisFlyer Miles
The card offers 15,000 anniversary KrisFlyer miles after reaching ₱200,000 in eligible accumulated retail spending during the applicable 12-month period.
For the first card year, the period is measured from the card’s approval date. For future years, it is measured between anniversary dates.
A ₱200,000 annual target is relatively manageable for a premium credit card. It is equivalent to an average spend of approximately:
₱16,667 per month
The anniversary bonus can significantly improve the card’s overall earning value.
For perspective, 15,000 miles would normally require:
- ₱180,000 of spending at the ₱12 rate
- ₱570,000 at the ₱38 rate
- ₱1.17 million at the ₱78 rate
Reaching the annual threshold can therefore be one of the most valuable features of the card.
The account must remain in good standing to receive both welcome and anniversary bonus miles.
Is There a Limit on the Miles You Can Earn?
EastWest currently publishes no mileage-earning cap for the KrisFlyer World Mastercard.
This can be valuable for high spenders, business owners, executives, and frequent travelers who regularly charge substantial hotel, airfare, dining, or international expenses.
You should still review the terms for unusually large or business-related purchases. EastWest may investigate transactions that appear inconsistent with ordinary personal card use or that violate the card agreement.
Miles Are Automatically Transferred to KrisFlyer
One of the most convenient features of this card is automatic mileage transfer.
You do not need to call EastWest whenever you want to convert bank points into airline miles. The miles shown on your monthly statement are generally transferred to your KrisFlyer account around two weeks later. Manual redemption is not allowed.
This is convenient because:
- There is no manual conversion request.
- There is no need to memorize transfer ratios.
- There is generally no separate conversion fee.
- The miles are already available in your KrisFlyer account for redemption.
However, automatic transfer also creates an important disadvantage: you cannot keep your rewards inside EastWest while waiting to decide which airline program to use.
Every mile goes to KrisFlyer.
You Need a KrisFlyer Account
You must nominate a valid KrisFlyer membership account during the application process.
The KrisFlyer account must belong to the principal cardholder, and the name should match the name shown in the cardholder’s passport. Miles cannot be credited to a spouse, parent, child, friend, or another person’s frequent-flyer account.
Applicants who do not provide a valid KrisFlyer number may be assigned one by the bank, according to the card’s terms.
It is still better to create your own account before applying. This helps you verify that your full name, date of birth, email address, and other personal information are correct.
Do KrisFlyer Miles Expire?
Yes.
Miles transferred by EastWest generally have a validity of three years from the date they are credited to the KrisFlyer account.
This is one of the biggest differences between the EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard and travel cards that hold non-expiring points inside the bank’s own rewards system.
Because miles transfer automatically, the expiration clock begins shortly after each billing cycle.
This means the card works best for someone who earns and redeems KrisFlyer miles regularly. It may be less suitable for someone who needs five or six years to accumulate enough miles for a flight.
Monitor your KrisFlyer account and plan your redemptions before the oldest miles expire.
What Can You Do With KrisFlyer Miles?
KrisFlyer miles may be used for eligible rewards such as:
- Singapore Airlines award flights
- Scoot flight redemptions
- Cabin-class upgrades
- Star Alliance award tickets
- Flights with participating airline partners
- Selected travel, shopping, and dining redemptions
- A combination of cash and miles on eligible transactions
Award availability, required mileage, taxes, surcharges, booking rules, and cancellation conditions vary.
Redeeming for flights or upgrades can potentially provide better value than using miles for merchandise or small lifestyle rewards, although this depends on the route and ticket price.
Before transferring spending to this card, it helps to search for sample award flights you might realistically book. This gives you a better idea of how many miles you need.
Ten Complimentary Airport Lounge Visits Annually
The EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard includes complimentary Mastercard Travel Pass membership provided by DragonPass.
Cardholders receive ten complimentary airport lounge visits per year. The visits can be used by the cardholder or shared with a companion.
This is one of the strongest lounge benefits among Philippine travel credit cards.
Ten visits could cover:
- Five round trips for one traveler
- Two round trips for a couple, with two visits remaining
- One family trip for several passengers, depending on the number of lounges used
Each person entering a lounge normally counts as one visit.
For example, when you enter with one companion, two visits are deducted from the annual allocation.
How to Register for Mastercard Travel Pass
You must register before using the benefit.
The basic process is:
- Download the Mastercard Travel Pass app provided by DragonPass.
- Create an account.
- Enter your eligible EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard details.
- Select the Philippines as the card’s issuing country.
- Provide your email address and mobile number.
- Create a digital membership password.
- Use the app to locate participating airport lounges.
- Present the digital membership card when entering the lounge.
A physical DragonPass membership card is not required. The app displays your membership, remaining visits, lounge locations, and access history.
Register before your departure date. Do not wait until you are standing outside the lounge because app registration or card validation issues can occur.
What Happens After You Use All Ten Visits?
Any visit beyond your annual complimentary allowance is currently charged at US$32 per person per visit.
The charge is billed to your EastWest KrisFlyer Mastercard.
Additional guest visits can also be charged when you do not have enough free visits remaining.
Always check the app before entering, especially when traveling with several people. Lounge fees can add up quickly.
DragonPass Dining Offers
Mastercard Travel Pass may also provide participating airport restaurant offers.
In some locations, you can use one of your complimentary lounge entitlements for an eligible dining redemption instead of visiting a lounge. One dining redemption consumes one lounge visit from your allowance.
Compare the dining benefit with the available lounge before redeeming. A full lounge visit may offer better value when it includes meals, drinks, Wi-Fi, charging stations, and comfortable seating.
Low 1.70% Foreign-Currency Fee
The card charges a 1.70% foreign-transaction service fee.
The fee consists of the applicable Mastercard assessment and EastWest service charges. It applies to qualifying foreign-currency transactions that are converted and billed in Philippine pesos, as well as certain transactions automatically converted into pesos by a foreign payment acquirer.
A 1.70% fee is highly competitive compared with many Philippine cards that charge approximately 2.5% to more than 3.5%.
Suppose you spend the equivalent of ₱100,000 overseas:
- At 1.70%, the fee is approximately ₱1,700.
- At 2.50%, the fee is approximately ₱2,500.
- At 3.50%, the fee is approximately ₱3,500.
Using the EastWest card could save around ₱800 to ₱1,800 on that amount compared with higher-fee cards.
Combined with the one-mile-per-₱12 cross-border earning rate, this makes the card particularly strong for international purchases.
Pay in the Destination’s Local Currency
When using the card overseas, payment terminals may ask whether you want to pay in Philippine pesos or the destination’s currency.
It is usually better to choose the local currency.
For example:
- Choose Thai baht in Thailand.
- Choose Japanese yen in Japan.
- Choose Singapore dollars in Singapore.
- Choose South Korean won in South Korea.
- Choose US dollars in the United States.
Choosing Philippine pesos may involve dynamic currency conversion, where the merchant’s payment processor sets the exchange rate.
That rate may be less favorable than Mastercard’s conversion rate. The transaction may also still fall under EastWest’s foreign-transaction rules if it was automatically converted to pesos by a foreign acquirer.
Check the currency carefully before confirming the payment.
Complimentary Travel Insurance of Up to ₱20 Million
Eligible principal and supplementary cardholders can receive complimentary travel accident and inconvenience insurance when the entire travel fare is charged in advance to the EastWest card.
The benefit applies to qualifying domestic and international travel by scheduled air, land, or sea transportation.
Eligible cardholders must generally be 75 years old or younger, and the card account must be active and current.
The insurance can also cover qualified family members whose full fares are purchased using the card.
These may include:
- The cardholder’s legal spouse
- The cardholder’s legal parents
- As many as four dependent children under the policy’s age limit
The current policy allows international trips of up to 90 days and qualifying domestic trips of up to 15 days.
Understanding the ₱20 Million Insurance Amount
The ₱20 million figure is the maximum aggregate travel-accident coverage for the family. It does not mean that every type of claim is covered for ₱20 million.
The published maximum travel-accident amounts include:
- Principal cardholder: ₱10 million
- Spouse: ₱10 million
- Each eligible child: ₱1 million
- Each eligible legal parent: ₱5 million
- Maximum family aggregate: ₱20 million
Other travel-inconvenience benefits have much lower limits. The current schedule includes maximum amounts such as ₱35,000 for loss or damage to baggage, ₱15,000 for qualifying baggage delay, ₱15,000 for qualifying flight delay, and ₱15,000 for flight cancellation per person. Medical reimbursement is also subject to its own much lower sublimit.
This distinction is important.
The insurance provides useful protection, but it may not replace a comprehensive standalone travel insurance policy—especially when traveling to countries with expensive medical care.
Read the Travel Insurance Exclusions
The complimentary policy contains numerous exclusions and conditions.
Depending on the circumstances, exclusions may apply to:
- Pre-existing medical conditions
- Certain motorcycle-related incidents
- Professional or high-risk sports
- Mountaineering or rock climbing involving ropes or guides
- Some scuba-diving activities
- Pregnancy-related claims
- Self-inflicted injuries
- Illegal activities
- Claims involving drugs or excessive alcohol
- Travel undertaken specifically to receive medical treatment
The policy also lists other exclusions, so read the complete coverage document before relying on it.
When your trip involves adventure activities, long stays, expensive medical destinations, or pre-existing conditions, consider purchasing a separate policy that specifically addresses those risks.
Mastercard Travel and Lifestyle Services
World Mastercard cardholders receive access to selected Mastercard travel and lifestyle services.
These can include:
- Hotel-booking privileges
- Lowest hotel rate guarantees, subject to conditions
- Hotel stay guarantees
- Personalized travel recommendations
- Lifestyle assistance
- Mastercard Priceless experiences
- Participating dining, retail, leisure, and wellness offers
Hotel bookings made through Mastercard’s travel platform may include additional protections or promotional benefits, depending on the property and reservation conditions.
These services should be treated as additional benefits rather than the primary reason to get the card. Compare hotel prices with direct hotel websites and other booking platforms before making a reservation.
EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard Annual Fee
The principal card carries an annual membership fee of ₱5,000.
The supplementary-card annual fee is ₱2,500, but the first supplementary card is free for life. EastWest allows principal cardholders to request as many as nine supplementary cards, subject to approval and the available credit limit.
The free first supplementary card can be helpful for couples or families because supplementary spending earns miles under the principal cardholder’s KrisFlyer account.
Whether the ₱5,000 annual fee is worth paying depends on how much value you receive from:
- Ten lounge visits
- The anniversary bonus
- Accelerated travel miles
- Foreign-currency savings
- Travel insurance
- Supplementary-card spending
- Mastercard travel privileges
For a frequent traveler who uses several lounge visits each year, the annual fee may be easy to justify.
For someone who takes only one trip every few years, it may be harder to recover the cost.
Other Fees and Charges
Aside from the annual fee, important published charges include:
- Interest charge: 3% per month or 36% annually
- Cash advance fee: ₱200 per transaction, plus interest
- Late payment fee: ₱1,500 or the unpaid minimum payment, whichever is lower
- Card replacement fee: ₱500
- Returned check fee: ₱1,500
- Foreign-transaction fee: 1.70%
- Quasi-cash fee: 5% or ₱300 per transaction, whichever is higher
- Installment processing fees on certain conversion requests
EastWest has also announced that the card’s over-limit fee will increase from ₱500 to ₱800 effective August 20, 2026.
The most important cost is the interest rate.
A 3% monthly interest charge can quickly erase the value of your airline miles. Always aim to pay the entire statement balance by the due date.
Should You Use the Card for Cash Advances?
No, except during a genuine emergency when no safer and cheaper option is available.
Although the program terms place qualifying international cash advances within a mileage category, cash advances carry a service fee and begin accumulating interest from the date of withdrawal. Local cash advances are also excluded from mileage earning.
The interest and fees will normally cost far more than the value of any miles earned.
Application Requirements
EastWest publishes a minimum gross annual income requirement of ₱2.6 million for the KrisFlyer World Mastercard.
That is approximately:
₱216,667 gross income per month
The applicant must also:
- Be a Filipino citizen or a locally resident foreign national
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have a mobile number
- Have the required residential or business contact information
- Submit acceptable identification and income documents
- Pass EastWest’s credit review
Meeting the minimum income requirement does not guarantee approval. EastWest will still examine your credit history, existing obligations, employment or business information, and overall financial capacity.
Documents for Employed Applicants
EastWest may accept one of the following income documents from employed principal applicants:
- Latest BIR Form 2316 or income tax return
- Certificate of employment showing compensation
- Appointment letter or personnel action document
- Recent salary adjustment memorandum
- Latest three months of payslips
- Government service record, when applicable
- Existing credit card reference and latest statement, when applicable
The bank may request further documents or verification depending on the application.
Documents for Self-Employed Applicants
Self-employed applicants may be asked to provide one of the following:
- Latest BIR Form 1701 or income tax return
- Latest audited financial statements
- Existing credit card reference and latest statement, when applicable
Business owners should ensure that the declared income is consistent with their tax returns, financial statements, bank activity, and application details.

Advantages of the EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard
1. Excellent ₱12-per-mile earning rate
The accelerated rate on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, hotels, travel agencies, and international transactions is one of the card’s strongest advantages.
2. Ten complimentary lounge visits
The annual lounge allowance is generous and can be shared with a companion.
3. Low foreign-currency fee
At 1.70%, the fee is considerably lower than those charged by many competing Philippine credit cards.
4. Valuable anniversary bonus
Earning 15,000 bonus miles after ₱200,000 in annual qualifying spend can substantially improve the card’s overall value.
5. Automatic mileage transfer
There are no complicated points conversions or manual transfer requests.
6. No mileage-earning cap
High spenders can continue earning without a published annual maximum.
7. Family travel insurance
Charging the complete fare to the card can provide travel accident and inconvenience protection for eligible cardholders and family members.
8. Free first supplementary card
A spouse or other qualified family member can help accumulate miles without an additional annual fee for the first supplementary card.
9. Wide Mastercard acceptance
Mastercard is accepted by a broad range of merchants in the Philippines and abroad.
Possible Disadvantages
1. Very high income requirement
The ₱2.6 million published annual income requirement places the card beyond the reach of many applicants.
2. Miles are locked into KrisFlyer
You cannot transfer the rewards to Mabuhay Miles, Asia Miles, or another bank partner.
3. KrisFlyer miles generally expire after three years
Automatic transfers mean the expiration period begins relatively quickly.
4. Slow earning on ordinary local spending
One mile per ₱78 is not competitive for groceries, utilities, fuel, and other essential local purchases.
5. ₱5,000 annual fee
The card is worthwhile only when you use enough of its benefits.
6. Other airlines earn only at ₱38 per mile
Flights on Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, and other non-Singapore Airlines Group carriers do not receive the card’s fastest rate.
7. The insurance headline can be misleading
The ₱20 million amount mainly refers to maximum travel-accident coverage. Medical, baggage, and delay benefits have much lower limits.
8. Automatic transfers reduce flexibility
You cannot hold points at EastWest while waiting to choose an airline or delay their expiration.
EastWest KrisFlyer World vs. KrisFlyer Platinum
The EastWest KrisFlyer Platinum Mastercard is the card’s more attainable sibling.
| Feature | KrisFlyer World | KrisFlyer Platinum |
|---|---|---|
| Best earning rate | ₱12 per mile | ₱15 per mile |
| Dining, local online and other airlines | ₱38 per mile | ₱45 per mile |
| Other local spending | ₱78 per mile | ₱88 per mile |
| Complimentary lounge visits | 10 | 4 |
| Welcome bonus | 6,000 miles | 3,000 miles |
| Welcome spending requirement | ₱200,000 | ₱100,000 |
| Anniversary bonus | 15,000 miles | 5,000 miles |
| Annual spend for anniversary bonus | ₱200,000 | ₱100,000 |
| Principal annual fee | ₱5,000 | ₱4,000 |
| Published annual income | ₱2.6 million | ₱1.2 million |
The World card is clearly more rewarding, particularly because of its ten lounge visits and 15,000-mile anniversary bonus. However, the Platinum card has a much lower income requirement and may be sufficient for someone who travels only a few times each year.
Is the Card Good for Local Spending?
It depends on the type of local spending.
The card is reasonably competitive for:
- Dining
- Online shopping
- Flights on other airlines
These categories earn one mile per ₱38.
However, it is not particularly strong for:
- Groceries
- Fuel
- Utilities
- Department-store spending
- General local purchases
These normally earn one mile per ₱78.
A practical strategy is to use the KrisFlyer World Mastercard for its accelerated categories while using another rewards card for local essential spending.
That approach makes sense only when you can manage multiple cards responsibly and pay every statement in full.
Is the Card Good for Overseas Spending?
Yes. This is where the card performs best.
The combination of:
- One KrisFlyer mile per ₱12
- A low 1.70% foreign-currency fee
- Ten airport lounge visits
- Travel insurance
- Mastercard acceptance
makes it one of the strongest Philippine credit cards for international spending.
The card is particularly valuable when you already intend to redeem through KrisFlyer.
Who Should Consider This Card?
The EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard may be ideal for:
- Frequent Singapore Airlines passengers
- Regular Scoot customers
- Travelers who redeem Star Alliance flights through KrisFlyer
- People who spend heavily overseas
- Travelers who book hotels and travel agencies regularly
- Cardholders who can use several airport lounge visits each year
- Couples who want to share lounge access
- High-income applicants who can meet the eligibility requirement
- People who can earn and use miles within three years
- Cardholders who can qualify for the annual bonus without overspending
Who May Be Better Off With Another Card?
Another travel card may be more suitable when:
- You primarily fly Philippine Airlines
- You prefer Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- You want to choose among several airline programs
- You need non-expiring bank points
- You rarely travel internationally
- Most of your spending is on local groceries, fuel, and utilities
- You do not meet the published income requirement
- You are unlikely to use several lounge visits
- You take too long to accumulate enough miles for a redemption
Tips for Maximizing the Card
Use it for international purchases
The ₱12-per-mile rate and 1.70% foreign-currency fee make overseas transactions especially rewarding.
Pay in the local currency
Avoid dynamic currency conversion when using the card abroad.
Use it for Singapore Airlines and Scoot bookings
These purchases earn at the card’s fastest rate.
Charge hotel and travel-agency bookings to the card
Eligible transactions in these categories can also earn one mile per ₱12.
Track the three-month welcome period
The clock begins from the card’s activation date, so monitor your qualifying spending carefully.
Reach the anniversary threshold naturally
The 15,000-mile bonus is valuable, but do not buy unnecessary items just to reach ₱200,000.
Register for Mastercard Travel Pass early
Install the app and validate the card before going to the airport.
Monitor your remaining lounge visits
Remember that each guest consumes an additional entitlement.
Track mile expiration dates
Because transferred miles generally expire after three years, have a realistic redemption plan.
Book awards early
Popular dates and routes may have limited award availability.
Use the free supplementary card
Eligible supplementary spending can help increase the principal cardholder’s mileage balance.
Pay the complete statement balance
Avoid paying interest. Finance charges can wipe out the value of miles and travel benefits.

The ₱12-per-mile rate is difficult to ignore. Add ten complimentary lounge visits, a 1.70% foreign-currency fee, 15,000 anniversary miles, family travel insurance, and a free supplementary card, and you have a genuinely competitive premium travel package.
However, the card is not for everyone.
Its ₱2.6 million income requirement is high. The ordinary local earning rate is slow, and every mile is automatically transferred to KrisFlyer. That removes the flexibility to switch between airline programs and starts the three-year mileage-expiration period relatively early.
The card provides its greatest value when you can use the accelerated categories, qualify for the anniversary bonus, and redeem miles regularly.
Final Thoughts
A fast mileage-earning rate is useful only when the miles take you somewhere you actually want to go.
Before applying for the EastWest KrisFlyer World Mastercard, look at Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and Star Alliance routes from the Philippines. Check sample award prices for destinations you plan to visit, and estimate how many miles you can realistically earn each year.
Also consider whether you can use the ten lounge visits, reach the annual bonus threshold, and recover the ₱5,000 fee through benefits you would have paid for anyway.
For frequent Singapore Airlines travelers and people who regularly spend abroad, the card can be exceptionally rewarding. For travelers who prefer different airlines or need more flexible rewards, a general travel-miles card may be a better fit.
As always, pay the entire statement balance by the due date. Airline miles can reduce the cost of future travel, but no amount of miles can compensate for repeatedly paying high credit card interest.
Card information is based on official EastWest Bank and Singapore Airlines materials checked on August 6, 2026. Fees, earning categories, lounge arrangements, insurance coverage, promotions, and eligibility requirements may change. Credit card approval remains subject to EastWest Bank’s credit evaluation.
