MRT SCHEDULE & STATIONS 2024 (Manila Metro Rail Transit System)

Many Metro Manila professionals and students alike have become reliant on the MRT as a quick, reliable, and affordable mode of transportation. Also known as the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, it is one of only two rapid transit systems operating in Metro Manila today.

The MRT’s construction was first planned and designed in the early 1980s, with Electrowatt Engineering Services of Zürich creating a comprehensive rail transit system plan for the metropolis. The plan was made up of a 150 km-long network of transit lines intended for construction within two decades. This plan is still used as the base idea for the current planning of new lines.

Construction of MRT Line 3 started in 1996, with the Department of Transportation and Communications (now known as the Department of Transportation) hiring SYSTRA for consultancy. A local consortium known as the Metro Rail Transit Corporation was awarded the build-lease-transfer contract for this project.

The line became fully operational on July 20, 2000, and it’s currently the only operational line in the MRT system. However, other lines are currently in the works. Line 7, which spans from North Triangle Common Station to San Jose del Monte, is scheduled to open in 2023. Other lines such as Line 4, the Makati Subway, and the Metro Manila Subway are also scheduled to open within the coming decade. CHECK THE BEST HOTELS IN MANILA HERE

Tips For Commuters And Contact Information

If you’re planning to take advantage of the MRT’s quick transport speeds and convenience, you’ll need to follow a few tips that’ll keep you from getting stuck in queues during rush hour. Here are a few things to keep in mind when riding the MRT:

Keep your personal belongings close in a handy bag. Pickpockets may be enticed by your valuables, so be mindful while you’re on the train and make sure items like your wallet and phone are stashed somewhere safe.

Hold on to the safety railing or sit tight. If you’re caught off-guard when the train suddenly moves forward, you may trip and fall onto your fellow passengers.

Get a Beep Card. These reusable, re-loadable cards will save you time from lining up for a single-use MRT card – handy if you plan to take the train often.
