NBI Clearance Online: How to Apply or Renew Through eGovPH

Getting an NBI Clearance has become much more convenient, especially with the launch of NBI eClearance inside the eGovPH Super App.

If you already have an NBI Clearance and simply need to renew it, you may no longer have to go through the usual process of registering, booking an appointment and lining up at an NBI office. Eligible users can now renew through eGovPH, access a digital copy of their clearance and either arrange delivery or choose pickup.

But there is an important difference between applying for a new NBI Clearance and renewing an existing one.

As of September 2026, the NBI describes the eGovPH integration primarily as a digital renewal service for eligible users. If you are applying for an NBI Clearance for the first time, you should still use the regular NBI Clearance Online Application system and expect to visit an NBI Clearance Center for your photograph, fingerprints, electronic signature and identity verification.

So, which process should you follow?

This guide explains both.

What Is NBI eClearance on eGovPH?

NBI eClearance is a digital service integrated into the eGovPH Super App.

The National Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Information and Communications Technology officially launched the service on July 6, 2026.

According to the NBI, verified eGovPH users can use the integration to retrieve their NBI Clearance information, renew an eligible clearance and access a digital copy of the document.

The NBI said eligible users may be able to complete the renewal process in as little as five minutes.

That is a big change from the traditional process where renewing an NBI Clearance could involve registering online, traveling to a clearance center and waiting for your turn.

For people who already have an existing NBI record, eGovPH is becoming the more convenient option.

Can You Apply for a New NBI Clearance Through eGovPH?

This is where things can get confusing.

The presence of NBI Clearance inside eGovPH does not necessarily mean that every applicant can complete a brand-new NBI Clearance application entirely through the app.

The NBI’s official announcement specifically highlights renewal for eligible users.

For new applicants, the NBI’s current instructions still direct applicants to the official NBI Clearance Online Application Portal. After completing the online portion, applicants must visit their chosen NBI Clearance Center for biometric capture and verification.

The actual options displayed in your eGovPH account may depend on whether the NBI system successfully matches your existing records.

How to Renew NBI Clearance Through eGovPH

If you’ve had an NBI Clearance before, this is probably the part you’re looking for.

You’ll need the eGovPH Super App and a verified eGovPH account.

The exact appearance of the app can change with updates, but the current process generally works like this:

  1. Open the eGovPH Super App and sign in to your verified account. Look for the section containing National Government Agencies or government services and select the National Bureau of Investigation. Open the NBI Clearance or NBI eClearance service.
  2. Allow the system to retrieve your existing NBI information. If your previous NBI Clearance is successfully linked to your account, you should be able to see information connected to your existing clearance.
  3. Review the personal information displayed by the system. Make sure important details such as your complete name, birth information and other identifying information are correct.
  4. Select the option to renew your NBI Clearance. Confirm the required declarations or certifications after reviewing your details.
  5. Choose how you want to receive the physical clearance. Current options may include pickup from an NBI Clearance Center or door-to-door delivery. Delivery charges depend on the destination.
  6. Select your payment method and complete the payment. Available channels reported for the eGovPH service include electronic wallets, online banking, cards and various payment centers.
  7. Save your transaction or reference number. This is important because it may be needed for checking your renewal status or claiming your document.
  8. After processing, check eGovPH again for your updated digital NBI Clearance. If you selected physical delivery, wait for the document to be sent to your registered address. If you selected pickup, follow the instructions regarding when and where it can be claimed.

The NBI says eligible eGovPH renewals can be completed in as little as five minutes, although actual processing or delivery time can naturally vary depending on the transaction.

How Much Is NBI Clearance Renewal Through eGovPH?

At the time of writing, the standard NBI Clearance fee reported for the eGovPH renewal service is ₱130.

A ₱30 convenience fee has also been reported for transactions through the service, which would make a pickup transaction around ₱160.

If you choose door-to-door delivery, a separate delivery charge may be added depending on your address.

Because payment charges and delivery rates can change, always treat the amount shown inside eGovPH before payment as the final amount for your particular transaction.

Don’t send money to an individual who contacts you through Facebook, Messenger or another unofficial channel claiming to process your NBI Clearance.

Use only the official NBI and eGovPH systems.

Can You Get a Digital NBI Clearance Through eGovPH?

Yes, this is one of the most useful features of the new service.

The NBI specifically states that eligible verified eGovPH users can retrieve, renew and access a digital copy of their NBI Clearance through the platform.

That means eGovPH is not simply being used as a shortcut to another government website. The integration allows NBI Clearance information itself to become accessible inside the government app.

However, whether an employer, bank, government agency or other organization accepts a digital version instead of a printed clearance may depend on that organization’s own requirements.

If someone specifically asks you for an original or printed NBI Clearance, it’s safer to obtain the physical copy as well.

What If My NBI Clearance Doesn’t Appear in eGovPH?

Don’t immediately assume that your old NBI Clearance has disappeared.

There are several possible reasons the system may not retrieve your record.

Your information in eGovPH might not perfectly match the information in your NBI record. Your previous clearance may also be too old, or your particular record may not qualify for the simplified renewal process.

The NBI’s traditional online renewal service states that clearances issued from 2014 onward may be used for online renewal under applicable conditions. The current NBI portal also lets applicants create an account using information from an NBI Clearance issued from 2014 onward.

If eGovPH does not give you a renewal option, use the official NBI Clearance Online system instead or follow the instructions displayed by the NBI.

What If My Personal Information Has Changed?

Pay close attention to this before paying.

Changes involving your name, civil status, birth information or other major identifying details can make renewal more complicated because the NBI needs to maintain an accurate identity record.

If the eGovPH service allows you to update the information and proceed, carefully review everything before submitting.

If the system will not allow the change or cannot match your identity, you may have to use the regular NBI process or visit an NBI Clearance Center.

This is one situation where trying to force the renewal through the app isn’t worth it. It’s much better to have the information corrected before your clearance is issued.

How to Apply for NBI Clearance If You’re a New Applicant

If you’ve never had an NBI Clearance before, the process is different.

The application starts online, but it is not completely online because the NBI still needs to capture your biometrics.

Go to the official NBI Clearance Online Application system and create an account.

You’ll normally need an active email address and mobile number because account verification may involve a one-time password or OTP.

Once logged in, complete your applicant information carefully.

This includes personal information and other details required by the NBI. Make sure your name and other identifying information match your official documents.

After saving your profile, choose Apply for Clearance.

The system will ask what valid identification you intend to present.

Next, select your preferred NBI branch or clearance center and choose an available schedule.

You can then select a payment method. Once the system generates your reference number, save it immediately.

According to the NBI’s current application guide, the basic clearance fee is ₱130, with additional electronic-payment charges that may apply depending on the channel selected.

After payment, check your transaction to make sure it is reflected in the system.

Then prepare for your visit to the NBI Clearance Center.

What Should You Bring to Your NBI Appointment?

For a regular new application, bring the identification required by the NBI together with your application or transaction information.

The NBI’s current guide tells applicants to bring their reference number or QR code, proof of payment and two valid government-issued identification documents.

Examples cited by the NBI include documents such as a passport, driver’s license, National ID and UMID.

Requirements can change, so check the instructions associated with your actual application before visiting the branch.

Original IDs are generally important. Don’t assume a screenshot or simple photocopy will be enough for identity verification.

What Happens at the NBI Clearance Center?

Once you arrive, the remaining process is usually straightforward.

An NBI staff member will verify your application information.

Your photograph will be taken, along with your fingerprints and electronic signature.

You may also be asked to check your details on the screen before the application is finalized.

This part matters more than many people realize.

Don’t simply look at your name and press confirm.

Check the spelling of your complete name, birth date and other personal information carefully. Correcting a mistake after the clearance has already been issued can be much more inconvenient than catching it during processing.

After your information and biometrics are processed, the NBI system conducts its database verification.

That’s where the familiar “HIT” and “NO HIT” results come in.

What Does “HIT” Mean in an NBI Clearance Application?

Getting a HIT doesn’t automatically mean that you have a criminal record.

A HIT can occur when your personal information or name matches or resembles information connected with another record in the NBI database.

That is why even people who have never been involved in a criminal case can sometimes receive a HIT.

If there is no HIT, your NBI Clearance may proceed to printing and release.

If there is a HIT, additional verification is needed. The NBI may give you a return or release date while it checks the record.

The NBI’s current guidance says applicants with a HIT may generally be instructed to return after a specified verification period rather than receiving the clearance immediately.

So don’t panic simply because the staff tells you that your application has a HIT.

Follow the instructions given to you.

Can First-Time Job Seekers Get NBI Clearance for Free?

Yes, qualified first-time job seekers have a separate process under the First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act or Republic Act No. 11261.

The NBI has a dedicated First-Time Job Seekers facility.

According to the NBI Citizen’s Charter, qualified applicants generally need a barangay certification confirming their first-time job seeker status together with the required identification documents.

Eligible first-time job seekers are not charged for the NBI Clearance under the program.

Don’t confuse “first-time job seeker” with “first-time NBI applicant.”

They aren’t necessarily the same thing.

First-time job seeker status is a legal benefit for qualified individuals seeking employment for the first time, while a first-time NBI applicant simply means you’ve never had an NBI Clearance before.

Is eGovPH Better Than the Regular NBI Website?

They serve slightly different purposes right now.

For someone who already has an eligible NBI Clearance record and simply needs a renewal, eGovPH is likely the more convenient option.

You can potentially complete the application remotely, make your payment, get access to a digital copy and choose how to receive the physical clearance.

For a first-time applicant, however, the regular NBI Clearance system remains important because the NBI still needs to capture biometrics.

So rather than thinking of eGovPH as a complete replacement for the NBI website, it’s better to think of it as another way to access certain NBI services — especially renewal.

Do You Still Need an Appointment When Renewing Through eGovPH?

Eligible eGovPH renewal users generally do not have to follow the same appointment process as a first-time applicant.

The whole point of the July 2026 NBI eClearance integration is to allow eligible renewals to be handled digitally without requiring applicants to line up at an NBI office just to renew.

If you select pickup, however, you may still have to go to an NBI location to receive your physical copy.

That’s different from going through the full biometric application process again.

If the app instructs you to appear personally for verification, follow the instructions displayed for your specific transaction.

Can You Have Your Renewed NBI Clearance Delivered?

Yes.

The eGovPH renewal process currently supports a door-to-door delivery option as well as pickup from an NBI Clearance Center.

Delivery involves an additional fee based on your location.

Before choosing delivery, make sure the address you enter is complete.

Include details that will actually help a courier find you, particularly if your home is inside a subdivision, compound or area where addresses can be difficult to locate.

Also double-check your mobile number because the courier may need to contact you.

What Payment Methods Can You Use?

Payment options can change, but the eGovPH NBI eClearance system has been reported to support several channels including GCash, Maya, online banking, Visa, Mastercard, 7-Eleven, ECPay, ShopeePay, Dragonpay and other payment methods.

Always complete payment through the transaction generated inside the official service.

After paying, save your receipt and reference number.

Even when everything is supposed to be automatically reflected online, having your reference details available makes troubleshooting much easier.

Can You Still Use the Regular NBI Online Renewal Service?

Yes.

The official NBI Clearance website still displays an online renewal option for eligible applicants, including a delivery service for qualifying previous clearances.

The eGovPH integration gives applicants another option and creates a more centralized government-services experience.

If one system doesn’t recognize your previous clearance, check the instructions provided by the other official NBI channel rather than creating multiple transactions immediately.

You don’t want to accidentally pay twice for the same clearance.

What Is the Difference Between a Digital and Physical NBI Clearance?

The digital version lets you access your NBI Clearance through the eGovPH platform.

The physical version is the printed certificate traditionally issued by the NBI.

Having the digital version is convenient because you don’t have to carry the paper copy just to view your clearance information.

However, organizations may still have their own documentary requirements.

Some employers may be comfortable with a verifiable digital government record, while others may still ask applicants to submit a photocopy or present the physical clearance.

When you’re getting an NBI Clearance for employment, it’s worth asking the employer exactly what form they require.

Is NBI Clearance Completely Online Now?

Not for everyone.

This is probably the biggest misconception created by headlines about the eGovPH launch.

Renewal can now be highly digital for eligible users.

First-time application is different.

The NBI still needs a new applicant’s photograph, fingerprints and signature, which means you should expect a physical visit to an NBI Clearance Center after completing the online application.

So “NBI Clearance Online” really describes two different experiences:

For eligible existing users, renewal may be almost entirely digital.

For new applicants, the internet takes care of registration, scheduling and payment, but biometrics are still done personally.

Common Problems When Applying Online

One of the most common problems is entering information incorrectly.

Your NBI Clearance is an identity document, so even a small spelling mistake can cause complications.

Another issue is using different information across government systems.

For example, if your name in eGovPH doesn’t match your older NBI Clearance record, automated matching may not work properly.

Applicants also sometimes lose their transaction reference number. Take a screenshot immediately after one is generated.

Payment posting can occasionally take time depending on the channel. Avoid creating another transaction simply because the status didn’t update instantly.

And if you are renewing through eGovPH, make sure you’re using an updated version of the app. Government digital services continue to evolve, so buttons and menu locations may change.

Is It Safe to Apply for NBI Clearance Online?

Use official platforms only.

NBI Clearance applications contain sensitive information including your name, birth information, contact details and biometric data.

Avoid websites or social media pages that claim they can issue an official NBI Clearance without going through the legitimate government process.

The official NBI Clearance system and the eGovPH integration are the appropriate channels for these transactions.

Also be careful with screenshots.

A screenshot of your clearance, QR code, reference number or personal information shouldn’t be posted publicly just because you successfully completed the application.

Treat it the same way you would treat a government ID.

What If eGovPH Is Not Working?

Government apps and websites can occasionally experience maintenance or technical issues.

If the NBI service isn’t loading inside eGovPH, check your internet connection, make sure the app is updated and try again later.

You can also check whether your transaction or renewal can be handled through the official NBI Clearance Online system.

If the problem concerns an existing paid transaction, avoid immediately starting and paying for a second transaction.

Save screenshots of error messages, your reference number and your payment receipt in case you need assistance.

Should You Renew Through eGovPH?

If the NBI eClearance service recognizes your existing record and gives you the option to renew, eGovPH is now one of the simplest ways to handle an NBI Clearance renewal.

The biggest advantage is that you may no longer need to repeat the traditional branch application process simply to get an updated clearance.

You can perform the renewal through your phone, pay digitally, access your digital clearance and decide whether you want pickup or delivery.

The NBI says eligible renewals can take as little as five minutes through the app.

For new applicants, though, don’t expect the entire process to happen from your phone just yet.

Complete the online registration and payment, then go to your selected NBI Clearance Center for biometrics and processing.

NBI Clearance Online

Final Thoughts

The addition of NBI eClearance to eGovPH is a significant improvement for anyone who regularly needs an NBI Clearance for employment, travel, business or other requirements.

If you already have an eligible NBI record, start by checking the eGovPH Super App. You may be able to renew your clearance, pay the required fee and access your digital copy without going through the traditional application process.

If you’re getting an NBI Clearance for the first time, use the official NBI online application system instead. Register, complete your information, select your branch, schedule your visit, pay the required fee and appear personally for biometrics.

And if you’re a qualified first-time job seeker, don’t forget that there is a separate NBI process that may allow you to obtain your clearance free of charge.

The easiest way to remember the current setup is simple: new application means online registration plus an NBI branch visit; eligible renewal can now be handled much more conveniently through eGovPH.

Just make sure you’re using official government systems, double-check your personal information before submitting anything and always save your payment and transaction reference details.
