After exploring Batag beach, we traveled for a few minutes to discover another hidden gem in Virac, Catanduanes.
When we arrived, a seemingly small beach, or shall I say a cove welcomed us. It was pristine and well-kept. I couldn’t contain my curiosity, so I asked Dwight, the very accommodating staff of Catanduanes Tourism Office.
“This is Talisoy Beach.” He answered.
So my story with this beach in Catanduanes begins.

Exploring Talisoy Beach
We immediately explored the place. It is relatively small like an enclosed little cove tucked in between some set of rock formations. It was like a hidden paradise. One impressive thing about Talisoy is the enclosed part of the beach which serves as a Turtle sanctuary. It’s good to know that the locals are doing their share to protect turtles and the environment as a whole.
After walking along the beach for a few minutes, everyone will definitely notice something different about a rock formation there. It actually resembles the head of Jesus Christ. Yes, I’m not kidding. It actually looks like Jesus Christ’s face.
This is the reason why some people also call this Jesus Face Beach. Many locals and tourists visit Talisoy just to witness this rock formation. One interesting fact is that when tourists explore the area via boat and get closer to the rock formation, it doesn’t look like Jesus’ head anymore. Even those who would fly a drone would attest to that. It seems like the rock formation only looks like Jesus’ face from the beach.
Aside from this popular name, this beach is also known for some as Talisoy cove or Tampad Beach. Locals used to call this Tampad beach, but over the years, it has been known as Talisoy beach since it is under the jurisdiction of Barangay Talisoy. Being managed by the barangay, there’s a minimal Php 15 entrance fee to the beach. For those who want to rent a cottage, they can do that for only PHP 250 for the entire day.
We were lucky to be exploring Talisoy beach during high tide because we were able to experience it like a full beach. But please be reminded that when you visit during low tide, it might be a little rocky experience for tourists. It is recommended to bring aqua shoes. Parts of the seabed are rocky, so be ready just in case.

How to get to Talisoy Beach
Talisoy beach is just a few kilometers from the Virac town proper. One of the most popular ways is to get to the beach is through a tricycle from Virac. Just tell the driver that you’re going to Talisoy Beach or the Face of Jesus Beach.
If you have a car and you’ll use Google Maps or Waze, a good point is the Talisoy Barangay Hall. It is just near the beach.
Activities at Talisoy Beach
Of course, there are many activities that you can do at Talisoy beach aside from swimming and beach-bumming.
It is also perfect for picnics, picture taking and you can also explore the surrounding rock formations. Talisoy beach is a secluded place that is perfect for a quiet and relaxing gathering of friends and family.
