A familiar scent that’s tantalized many a Metro Manila mallgoer is the sweet, cinnamony waft of freshly-baked goodies at Cinnabon.
Famous for their pillowy-soft cinnamon rolls, Cinnabon has survived endless waves of food trends and economic downturns alike. The popular pastry chain opened its first location in December 4, 1985 in Washington, U.S.A. The goal of Seattle Based Restaurants Unlimited majority owner Rich Komen and Cinnabon CEO Ray Lindstrom was to make the perfect cinnamon roll at this new bakery. Serving only cinnamon rolls at the outset, the brand proudly touted a sign that simply said “the world’s best cinnamon rolls”.

The attention to quality and commitment to simple, delicious baking soon catapulted Cinnabon to success. From that humble bakery soon sprung its first franchise in just one year! It wasn’t long before Cinnabon started expanding to other countries. The first branch here was brought by Rene Santos, who persisted in his application to bring Cinnabon to Manila after tasting the rolls as a hand-carried pasalubong in 1994. Five years of persistence bore fruit, allowing the first Cinnabon bakery to open in Manila in October 1999!
This Philippine milestone was also a regional one, as it was the first Cinnabon bakery in Asia. Today, Cinnabon has franchises in 48 countries and continues to sell its delectable rolls to millions of sweet-toothed customers. Guess it’s love at first, second…and maybe even thousandth bite!
