When one mentions Mary Grace, it immediately summons up the image of titas gathering at a table to catch up over coffee and their divine ensaymada and cheese rolls. The image of being a “tita” place is one well-loved and earned, as it only means that Mary Grace’s dishes have passed the discerning eyes of aunties because of their warm service and delicious food!
Mary Grace was founded by Mary Grace Dimacali, a mother of five who loved to bake. Her pastries and cookies earned rave reviews from family and friends, and her birthday cakes for her family were always baked from scratch. Soon Ms. Dimacali became interested in sharpening her skills, taking a year-long course in Los Angeles on baking in 1986.
Realizing that she could sell more than just her usual holiday fruitcakes, she decided to bake products that would sell year-round and make use of her newfound knowledge. Ms. Dimacali started testing ensaymada recipes, and her husband persuaded her to start selling them in 1994 at a Christmas bazaar. It was so popular that it blossomed into a little family business.
Seeing how customers were snapping up their ensaymadas and other baked goods, the family opened a kiosk in Glorietta 4 – and that led to more kiosks and the opening of the first Mary Grace café in 2006. Today, there are 50 Mary Grace cafes and even more kiosks all over the country!
Mary Grace Menu
What you decide to try will depend on whether you’re staying for a full meal or simply treating yourself to a snack. If it’s the latter you can’t go wrong with the classic fluffy Mary Grace Ensaymada or Cheese Roll. Light with the perfect balance of cheese and sugar, it’s the perfect partner to their signature Mary Grace Hot Chocolate. Personally, we highly recommend asking the server to grill your ensaymada for a slight crunch before you dip it into the chocolate.
