After our dinner at Hidden Garden in Vigan, it was time to visit the Provincial Capitol. Well, not exactly the Capitol, but the structure beside it, which is the Provincial Farmers Livelihood Development Center. This is where the local products of Ilocos Sur are showcased, and one of these is the One Ilocos Sur Cafe.
If you didn’t already know, Ilocos Sur is emerging as a producer of high-quality Robusta coffee in the country. The Robusta coffee harvested in the province, especially in Sigay and Gregorio Del Pilar, is not only flavorful but also award-winning. It has consistently been recognized for having the best Robusta coffee in the annual Philippine Coffee Quality Competition or PCQC.
In 2021, Mr. Mabini Ubuan from the town of Sigay won the championship for having the best Robusta coffee, surpassing hundreds of entries from across the country.
With all these accolades, it is perfect timing to establish the One Ilocos Sur Cafe to showcase the best coffee in the province along with its food products. I was thrilled to have the chance to visit the cafe during our Ilocos Sur trip with DOT Region 1.
One Ilocos Sur Cafe Experience
Firstly, the design is modern and can compete with other mainstream coffee brands. More than that, the One Ilocos Sur Cafe can also match and even surpass the best coffee shops in the country when it comes to taste and flavor.
They offer a variety of coffee blends, but one that they recommended for us to try was their special blend of Robusta Coffee. Since we were a large group, it was understandable that our orders took some time to be prepared. So, we took advantage of the opportunity for a photo op with the local officials and the Department of Tourism representatives.

When our coffee finally arrived, I wasted no time in tasting it. At that moment, I fully understood why Ilocos Sur has been a consistent winner of the PCQC! It had a unique and exciting flavor that I couldn’t quite put into words, but it was undeniably delicious with its distinctive taste and aroma.
I remember all of us nodding in agreement as we savored the coffee, it was truly exceptional. It’s only a matter of time before Ilocos Sur’s Robusta coffee becomes mainstream! And I believe that establishing the One Ilocos Sur Cafe is a significant step towards introducing the province’s excellent Robusta beans to the Philippines and the rest of the world.

In addition to coffee, the cafe also offers a variety of food and snacks from Ilocos Sur. Remember, the entire property also houses the Ilocos Sur OTOP Hub and Livelihood Museum, so expect to find a wide range of products from different towns and cities in Ilocos Sur.
By the time we left the One Ilocos Sur Cafe to head to our next destination, the Vigan Museum, I was pleased to have my much-needed caffeine fix that afternoon. What’s more, I was satisfied with the delicious and high-quality coffee.
