By now, everyone in the Philippines is familiar with the inviting sizzle of a samgyeopsal grill. It’s a cooking technique taken from Korea which has earned the hearts of locals because of its simplicity: pick what you want to cook, and grill it yourself!
This delicious, easy-to-prep DIY style of eating has resulted in many different franchises all offering their own takes on the popular dish – but none have been as successful or as popular as Samgyupsalamat!
Samgyupsalamat is owned by YHK F&B Incorporation, and its name comes from incorporating “samgyup” taken from the Korean barbecued meat dish “samgeyopsal”, and “salamat”, meaning “thank you” in Tagalog. It’s a playful portmanteau that helped localize this business, which started in Kapitan Tikong, Manila, to feed hungry De La Salle University students in 2012!
Samgyupsalamat started by serving ala cart meat dishes for barbecuing, served with a set of appetizers to enjoy as the meat cooks: spicy and sour kimchi, crunchy radish kimchi, and braised baby potatoes are just some of the typical appetizers (aka banchan) that one can expect to accompany their meals. Customers could pick from meat options like beef sirloin and pork belly to grill by themselves – and this was an immediate hit with barbecue-loving Pinoys.
Gradually Samgyupsalamat moved on to offering unlimited samgyeopsal promos – an irresistible offer to buffet-loving but budget-conscious foodies. Diners could choose between unlimited pork or unlimited pork with beef, and it was the perfect business model to entice an ever-growing line of hungry diners. With over 50 branches open and no signs of slowing down, it’s clear that Samgyupsalamat and its tasty, quick grilling options are here to stay!

Depending on what you want to order, you can choose from Samgyupsalamat’s unlimited pork or unlimited pork and beef options for a full Korean feast inclusive of side dishes (banchan) and rice – these are their two more popular choices for those who want to dine in.
The former offers five delicious pork choices to grill, such as Gochujang Samgyeopsal, aka sliced pork belly with sweet and spicy sauce. The latter offers all five pork choices as well as five beef choices, such as Yangnyum Beef Samgyeopsal, or sliced beef short plate with seasonings and a special sauce.
