It’s been a while since I last met up with my high school friends. So when Eric invited us to watch Nina perform live at District One in BGC, Taguig, I didn’t hesitate.
Firstly, I really needed to see my friends. A lot was happening in my personal life at the time, and catching up with them promised to lift my spirits. Secondly, although I’m not a big fan of Nina, I recognize her talent. Watching her live seemed like a good idea.
Moreover, I was excited about returning to Taguig. Having lived there for most of my life, I missed it dearly. And BGC is always a great place to visit.
Now living in Cavite, I departed early for our 7 PM rendezvous at District One. Anticipating traffic in BGC, especially on a weekend, I used Angkas, a motorcycle-hailing app, to reach the venue.
Upon arrival, I was relieved that the event hadn’t started. I headed to the second floor, where the venue was located, and was delighted to find my friends awaiting me. We had ample time to chat and even grab dinner before Nina’s performance.
Hungry for a hearty meal, I ordered the Crispy Pork Belly for 839. This generous serving of pork belly came with cucumber relish, vinegar, and bagoong rice. It’s even suitable for sharing.
My friends opted for pasta and various rice dishes. For dessert, we chose the Classic Frozen Brazo.
Unexpectedly, Nina’s performance was delayed. Rumor had it that she had attended a special event for a TV network earlier. This didn’t bother us much; it gave us more time to bond.
Many find solace in friendships formed at work or other phases of life. But for me, the bond with my childhood friends is unparalleled. We’ve known each other since we were 13. As I’ve aged, my circle of friends has become more intimate.
When Nina finally took the stage, she didn’t disappoint. I’ve always known she’s a gifted singer, but seeing her perform live, especially at an intimate venue like District One, was something else. We were seated at the second table from the performance area, which made the experience even more memorable as we felt she was singing directly to us.
Her renditions of “Jealous” and “Through the Fire” evoked many cherished memories from my student days. By the time the event concluded, it was well past midnight. The night at District One, packed with music, nostalgia, and friendship, was truly a splendid way to reconnect with Taguig and old friends.
