Guimaras was a former sub-province of Iloilo until it was declared as an independent province on May 22, 1992.
Aside from having a history, Iloilo is the nearest province and the fastest way to travel to Guimaras which is only separated by the Iloilo Strait. Usually, it only takes about 25 minutes of sea travel through a motorboat from Iloilo city to Jordan, Guimaras. But due to the recent tragedy that happened in the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait, the operation of the motorboat was suspended, at that time.
Just recently, the Department of Tourism – Western Visayas (DOT-6) has launched a new campaign called #LoveGuimaras Assistance Package (OLAP) which is expected to bring in at least 100,000 tourists in 12 months.
Aside from the motorboats, there are still some fast craft and RORO that passengers can take to travel from Iloilo to Guimaras. If you’re planning to explore Iloilo then do a side trip to Guimaras, this guide is for you.

Iloilo to Guimaras via Starlite Ferries
Starlite Ferries has 8 direct trips from Iloilo to Guimaras, and then another 8 trips from Guimaras to Iloilo. The ports that are being utilized by Starlite Ferries are the Iloilo port in Fort San Pedro Drive and Jordan Port in Guimaras.
Travel time is more or less 30 minutes, and the assigned vessel for this route is the new, Sprint 1.
