Bigger Brew: Affordable Coffee in Gen. Trias, Cavite (Menu & Experience)

I arrived early for the scheduled street dance parade at the Valenciana Festival in Gen. Trias. While chatting with a fellow festival enthusiast, I realized I needed a coffee fix. Yes, I’m one of those people who can’t function well without caffeine in the morning.

I had woken up a bit late that day and forgotten my coffee. The parade was scheduled for 2 PM, according to the local tourism’s Facebook Page. However, seeing the vehicles still passing through the planned route, I sensed it would start late.

As I conversed with another festival-goer, my mind started to wander, yearning for coffee. Considering the heat, an iced coffee seemed perfect.

I strolled in front of the GenTri Public Market and spotted a small coffee shop on the first floor of a two-story building. To my dismay, they were only serving milk tea that day, with no coffee-based drinks available.

My disappointment must have been evident when I asked the staff a second time, “You don’t have coffee?” Their confirmation led me to search for other coffee shops.

Cafes and coffee shops have proliferated in Gen. Trias over the past years, so I was confident I’d find another nearby. Indeed, right on the second floor of the same building, I discovered a white-themed coffee shop – The Bigger Brew.

Bigger Brew

It was staffed by young individuals, likely students, as I deduced from overhearing their conversations. When I inquired about their best-sellers, they recommended a Spanish Latte, coincidentally my favorite.

The Bigger Brew Menu offered a variety of drinks, including coffee frappes, iced coffee, hot coffee, fruit tea, and milk tea. What stood out was the affordability of their prices, seemingly targeted at students.

They had three serving sizes: 16 oz., 22 oz., and 1 L. The smallest iced coffee was only P49, and the largest was P79 – way much cheaper compared to other local coffee shops.

The Bigger Brew Experience

After ordering a Spanish Latte, I took a moment to observe the place. It was all white and comfortable, seemingly an ideal hangout for students, which their pricing strategy also suggested.

I chose the 22 oz. Spanish Latte, though curious about the biggest option, I felt it would be excessive. The drink was satisfying, especially for someone craving any form of coffee. It wasn’t extravagant, but the coffee flavor was just right for me.

However, for those used to more distinct and robust coffee experiences, this might not suffice. Still, given its price, my expectations were managed.

If I’d suggest an improvement to Bigger Brew, it would be to strengthen the coffee flavor, as it sometimes tasted more like milk tea. I know people might say, that’s what you get for the cheap price, but still, they call their product iced coffee, so at least make it taste like coffee. Haha

Overall, I was content with my iced coffee fix. The parade eventually started at 4 PM. The wait was long, but I’ve learned to moderate my expectations with festival events. I enjoyed the music and dances, capturing the parade on film.
