PINANG-ET: Tasty Native Snack of Mayoyao, Ifugao

Exploring Mayoyao, Ifugao was an adventure in itself filled with awe-inspiring nature and magnificent rice terraces. But aside from the breathtaking scenery, I also look forward to experiencing its food.

Good thing that by the time we arrived in Mayoyao, a native snack served as a welcome for us. This is called Pinang-et.

As we stepped into the office, we were greeted with warm smiles and a tray of inviting snacks. Among them was Pinang-et, a native delicacy of Mayoyao. Wrapped in banana leaves, it resembled the popular suman, but with its unique twist.

Eager to try this local treat, I reached for one and took a bite. The first thing I noticed was its subtle sweetness, just the right balance for my palate. But what truly set Pinang-et apart was its distinct flavor, enriched by the combination of organic brown rice and young coconut.

Eating Pinang-et

The quality of the ingredients was evident with every bite. In the Cordilleras, where rice is rich, Mayoyao‘s organic brown rice stood out for its superior taste and texture. It has a wholesome richness to the Pinang-et, elevating it from a simple snack to a culinary delight.

With each mouthful, I savored the blend of flavors – the organic brown rice, the creaminess of the coconut, and the delicate sweetness. It was a kind of taste that left me craving for more.

I couldn’t resist indulging in another piece of Pinang-et, so I took another one. As I relished the last bite, I couldn’t help but appreciate the simplicity and authenticity of Mayoyao’s culinary tradition.
